I've been banking with Ballard WaFd since I opened my first bank account at 11. I'm now almost 30. Over the years, fees have increased while their services have remained much the same. The last time I was in, it took nearly an hour to make a deposit and get a few Canadian bills exchanged. The staff is friendly but no one really seems to have a good handle on the systems or procedures. Seems like every time I go in they need to call someone at another office or ask a coworker how to do something, which makes things take even longer. I've found another bank that charges 0 fees, has high yield savings accounts, and handles my questions in under ten minutes. After nearly 15 years, bye bye WaFd.

Washington Federal Bank use to a good bank, I have banked there for over 35 years. Today, though, I discovered I was being charge a monthly 'inactive' fee, a fee for NOT using banking services, even though the account had $17,000 in it!

We're sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience. We are escalating your feedback to the local management team for review.

I walked in after arriving in Seattle from Houston, Texas in October 16 to inquire only about a checking account here. I was born/raised in Ballard and always banked with Washington Mutual until 1985. I was so impressed with the service as 3 people introduced themselves to me and my son and instantly recognized that same personal service WaMu offered that I opened my accounts at that time. There were a few obstacles for them to deal with as I just moved home from Texas and had reverted to my maiden name. It took longer but Jeannie who helped me was very patient. They continue to provide great service. One lady reviewed the bank debited her account for checks. That's standard so I told them when opening my account that I would order mine myself and no charge made to me. Thanks so much Ballard WF. Jeanne PS If I had walked into Downtown branch first I never would have opened a WF account. Service there on 3 visits has been terrible.

Their tellers are not well trained, and their systems are antiquated. It took me almost 40 minutes, waiting at the counter, for them to transfer money from one account at their bank to another. I opened a CD. Apparently the two different accounts don't communicate, and the teller had to call in another employee, and then call a support number to find out how to fill out the forms. Apparently, she had to print out the data from one account, and then read the print-out to re-key the data into the same terminal, but to a different account. She called another branch to find out how to do that, and after getting it confirmed, she entered it, and then was told that she made a typo, and had to rekey the data in again. This was from one account to another in their bank! Then, today, i wanted to pull out some cash, and find out how to move my 401 to another account, and it took almost half an hour. I don't know why they can't have their lobby open. If grocery stores can manage to keep dozens if not hundreds of customers in social-distance, I don't see why a lobby with two or three customers can't arrange for social distancing. I think they just had one person handling two different drive-through windows; it sounded like the same woman. She said, "I have to look that up for you" and then handled two other cusotmer at the other drive-up window, while I'm out in the cold, wondering if she forgot me - it's been 10 minutes and I haven't heard anything. By the way - it's not a "drive-up" window, it's a "walk-up" window. Of the five customers, only one was in a car. Then she comes back, and then tells me she has to "check your account" and handles two more customers before she gets back to me. It was about 27 minutes, I'm not sure because I wasted some time trying to get into the lobby, and looking for any signage explaining what was going on, and then trying to find the drive-through, so may be she only took 23 minutes to withdraw some money and tell me how to close out my 401K. Very poor training, very poor systems management, and a somewhat callous disregard for their customers.

Don't pay for parking on Market in front. They have a free lot off NW 56th St. behind them. I've been banking with them since 2006 when they were First Mutual Bank. I recommend this bank to my clients that I set up, review, and train one-on-one in QuickBooks and Quicken. Why? Because unlike US Bank, they allow free downloads into both of those software packages.

    Response from the owner

Hello Mr. Gormezano, Thanks so much for the 5-star review and for taking the time to share your feedback. Thank you for allowing us to serve your banking needs.

The teller's/employers are extremely dramatic and racist! Someone Locked the door at 4:16 pm on a Friday which it cleary states on the door that they close at 6 pm on Friday evenings. According to the teller the reason for locking the door is because the guy (black male) " looked suspicious " when all he did was walk to the ATM and then walk to the front door to attempt to speak with a teller. The man did absolutely nothing to bring any reasonable suspicion that would make anyone assume that he was going to harm anyone. Very negative experience! Beware
