The drive thru bank teller, pardon I forgotten her name, has the best customer service out of all of the members. Reginald Godette is one of the worse. He has a very “superior” single minded like character. I feel like he doesn’t try to relate and be understanding to customers like me. It’s about what he thinks he knows and not serving the customer who is also apart of community. We as black people have to stop that when it comes having higher credentials and I see it more than once here at this establishment. I lived in Greensboro and when I have problems at Charlotte’s branch, I call Greensboro tbh.

This is by far the worse bank I've ever had. Specifically opened an account because it was black owned, but that doesn't matter. Bad business is bad business. They are not very helpful. Everything from online banking, to using the mobile app, to disputing transactions, transferring funds, getting a new debit card, withdrawing money from an ATM. Anything you can think of is extremely inconvenient. Do not bank here unless you need a savings account and don't want to access your funds.

    Response from the owner

Ms. Walls - We apologize that your experience has not met your expectations. We are required to uphold our policies related to disputing transactions and have begun the dispute process for you. You will be notified when this has been completed. If you have any questions related to the process or any other matter, we are available at 800-433-8283.

They are a local bank, so keep your expectations low. Customer service is always nice. But they are a little behind other banks in terms of technical services. Their credit card that they offer is not always recognized as a credit card and sometimes won’t bypass the PIN on card machines. Their card manager app is supposed to allow you to make your card usable outside of the US, but for the entire week I was gone, no matter how many times I called, my card purchases never went through. I had to CashApp/PayPal friends (they won’t connect to Apple Wallet or Zelle) or use my credit cards associated with other banks the entire time. My wallet got stolen on November 19th, I called that same day to have my card replaced. The person I spoke with said it could take up to 3 weeks. That was already a long time, but he quickly added that there was nothing they could do about it. 3 weeks go by, I call on December 13th and ask why I still have not received my card. The man explained that the order was put in but it can take up to 6 days to process before it ships. I asked if he had any information on when it was processed he said no. He simply kept saying that other banks were having the same problem and that I should just wait. I know other banks aren’t having the “same problem” because I got my other cards within a week of me reporting them stolen. So now I have no idea when I will be getting my new debit card. I have been very patient with M&F, but I think they are better used as a secondary bank. Maybe somewhere you can keep some extra cash. But it’s not really fitting as a primary bank for younger people.

Doing a great job for a local bank. All of my needs have been met. They just need an opportunity to grow and develop

Terrible customer service. I visited to open a business checking account. Prior to arriving I spoke with Candice. I asked for their hours and told them I would be coming Friday after work, since that was the day they stayed open until 6. I arrived at 5:30 only to be told that they don't open new accounts after 5:15. That would've been nice to know. I explained that I drove quite a way to get there. So the teller paged for someone to meet me. When Candice arrived, she had a smug look on her face as if she had better things to do. I introduced myself and she didn't shake my hand or say nice to meet you. She acted as if we'd never spoke over the phone prior to my arrival. During our interaction, she spoke with a condescending tone. As I sat at her desk, she left to get something and she rolled her eyes and mouthed a remark to the other teller. She didn't realize my husband saw. He texted me and when she returned, I told her I was no longer interested in opening an account. She didn't seem to care. I was told that this is a black owned bank so I was excited about opening an account. Sadly I was disappointed.

SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING CHANGING BANKS !! Tried to give my people a chance to handle money and keep money flowing through our community but too many rotten apples within the bunch. I mainly handle through the Charlotte, NC branch but I’ve had so many less than favorable moments with this “corporate” location. So far I’ve had 2 incidents that’s swayed my perception of this bank. Let’s start small with the pet peeves... they don’t have any ATMs that I know of ...or any in the Charlotte, NC area at all. Secondly they don’t have a real 24 card line, the after hours line leads to a third party company that can shut down your card should you lose or have it stolen. Here’s where they start bothering me... you can only swipe your card 12 times in one day which is fine for the most part but I had an issue come up where I’d ordered a Lyft/Uber and my card was declined with the funds available to cover my ride and by me not knowing what They heck was going on I kept trying to process my card because the money was there. I was trying to get a tow truck to tow my freaking car the same day and the same thing happened NO LUCK. I called the 24 hr line for the first time that day and they couldn’t help me because my card wasn’t lost or stolen. I had to miss work over this flimsy institution they call a bank. The next day i had contacted them seeing what they could do and I was told that it takes a full 24 hrs for the swiping to restore and I’m like okay cool... how we got from 24 hours to an entire week is beyond me because I had called and called to see what they could do and it was like this stuff was over their head. I had called this very corporate location and they couldn’t do anything either, they are pointless. The associate in the branch got an attitude with me when I asked her if she could restore my card so that’s i could access my funds and she unnecessarily told me how many times that I swiped my card that day after I explained to her that ALL OF THEM WERE DECLINED. Which I felt wasn’t her business in the first place, it’s my freaking money and I work hard for it. I was placed on hold where 2 puzzled women picked up the line not knowing who I was or what I was calling about. I’m not sure if I was transferred or they weren’t sure on how to work their own telephone system which makes them look even worse. My next issue with this bank is that I had payed an electric bill on the 9th of this month and I checked my account to make sure that the money was deducted and indeed it was. 10 days later which was last week. My payment had just been completed and it threw off my account and not only that but overdrafts my bounce protected account and charged me $105.00 in fees. I contacted them and left them know my issue and I needed to know how this happened. The VP Patty Quatramini seemed like she couldn’t care less and referred me back to my local branch then said to contact my electric company on why they waited so long to retrieve the funds. I told her that this draft wasn’t my fault and asked if she could reverse this fee and she declined my request stating that previous purchases contributed to this happening which was false. Checked my account earlier that week and left my card home for 3 consecutive days until my payday so how exactly did I contribute to over $100 in draft fees?? She seemed pretty dismissive and kept referring me to the Charlotte location and I kindly reminded her of who she was and asked her to remove that trash they call bounce protection. She obliged just to get me out of her hair. I will be moving my money as fast as I can because I literally have thousands of dollars deposited each month into their institution and all they have to show for it is less that average service. Last part of my rant ... I had mentioned bounce protection previously and I got it because a I thought that it would be a good cushion for me should I need it. So far I’ve seen them charge anywhere from 35 bucks on up to my recent $105. They are not consistent and they don’t say how they calculate these numbers. Beware of this bank.

Seven years with this bank and in the final days they could not or would not help me where my new bank has went above and beyond. But that is not what makes them horrible, what makes them horrible is that they are opportunist and incompetent! Even after closing my acct with them they did not close the acct, instead left $0.01 in the acct keeping it open. The manager "Reggie" is a complete ass that had the nerve to tell me that I shouldn't spend money on an online game! He further charged me $175.00 in over draft fees that I clearly did not authorize! An admin in Raleigh refunded this money to me however, the fact that Reggie is an opportunist for the bank, clearly seeing I am on a low fixed income was rude, judgmental and the season I left the bank. Update: SEVEN / 7 months to close my bank account that was in good standing. A team of chihuahua's could have closed the account better. Although I went to the bank to ensure that they actually closed the account my faith is not strong at this point. I feel very sorry for the ladies that have to work wit Reggie at this bank.

I am a new member of this bank and I have had a pleasant experience this far. The young ladies in there have given stellar service on every visit even though I keep minimal funds there. I will be seeking to do further business here as I am confident that I will be handled with great care and consideration. My only issue however, is online access. This worked for a while I even have the app on my phone and it all of a sudden stopped allowing me access. Frustrating but, I will be contacting the 800 number to resolve. Technology is the now and the future. It would be beneficial to keep things up to standard in this area.

PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE!!!! Over and beyond any banking experience that I have had in my lifetime. I left there feeling like the friendly staff really wanted to help me! From the person who answered the phone when I called for directions, to the young lady Candice Anderson who was very kind in her dealings with me, to the great advice from her SVP Tanya Dial-Bethune, to the security guard Roland, EVERYONE was EXTREMELY NICE!!! I just felt at home and that was AMAZING considering it was the first time I had visited M&F Bank! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! They know how to treat people with RESPECT!
