Lack of customer service, communication, and general care. We called them a month out about heating the pool at our rental. Then we found out that that wouldn't be possible due to construction. We were told, "we're sorry" but that a number of furniture inside the house had been updated (yay?). After some reflection my group and I decided to express our general unhappiness with this turn of events and be provided with a pool with heat or a refund. We received a refund (as it was finally determined that the construction simply wouldn't be done in time for us), however it was only after MUCH advocating on our part for our group (multiple calls from me to them), after hearing A LOT of excuses from them, and mentioning that there were worried about a bad review from us. When we arrived at the home we found a number of things were broken and/or not working. The ice maker (which was also very moldy), the fridge was not hooked up to a water line (so no ice there either), and a microwave that was broken so a second one had been brought in. We were not told ANY of this by EIR. We had to figure it out on our own and get our own ice. When a staff member from EIR came on site (for another issue with the newly laid sod) I asked to speak with him. Upon being rudely brushed off at first I was finally able to have a conversation. That's when the broken appliances were explained and were blamed on parts being unavailable. No apology was offered up though. He did offer to purchase us ice but by that time it was mid-day of our first day and we'd already bought our own ice. He did not inquire as to how our stay was going just made excuses and left. The pool was also treated on our first day and so we were not able to swim in it till 3pm that day. Luckily it was warm enough for us to swim and since we're mostly from the midwest our group was interested in taking a dip. We had to call around to different places in Charleston to find a place were we could possibly go swimming, a aspect of the trip that would have been a nice extra tough for EIR to do for us, seeing as it was there issue that the pool was not heated. Finally, when we called them a day after our trip to ensure we were squared away and that all was accounted for and OK on our end we were not told thank you, nor did they inquire as to how the trip was. If I was the owner of this home, where I charge upwards of $1,200 a night, I would be finding a new management company.

Horrible experience with East Island Rentals. We spent 19K on a beach front rental and had issue after issue with our property and received zero help from the rental agency. Our upstairs air conditioner was broken from day 1 and they never fixed it. The majority of the family slept upstairs in 78-80 degree rooms. They sent a repairman that couldn’t find or fix the problem. I sent photo proof of the thermostat temperature and still couldn’t get help. In addition to the a/c, the main dishwasher was broken, the tv in a room was broken, the master bedroom fan was broken amongst many other things. Do yourself a favor and rent directly from a homeowner.
We apologize that you did not enjoy your experience with East Islands. Please be assured on day one a qualified HVAC repair man was sent and the system was working. The next time you called the repair man came immediately and you did not allow him into the house. We did want to have the programming reset but you did not want us to during your stay, it was fixed the Saturday of your departure per your request. The AC programming did shut off for two hours during the late morning and start back again in the mid-afternoon- again, we are sorry. We would have sent our cleaners to the home if you would have let us know you were unhappy with the cleaning. We do not provide baby equipment, there is a company linked on our website that all vacation rentals companies on the Isle of Palms recommend. Again we are sorry you did not have the experience you were hoping for, East Islands Rentals

If you are looking for a top notch beach rental experience, look no further. East Island Rentals has many luxury homes available. I have used them twice and both times the properties were immaculate and the booking process was seamless. They are communicative and responsive - exactly what you want with a rental agency. 5 stars!

Be careful Booking with this company. You will most likely not get all of your money back if you have to cancel for ANY reason. I booked a home with this company for 3 nights over Spring Break. I live out of state and the government placed travel advisories for discretionary travel only due to Covid-19. East Islands Rentals would not refund all of our money for having to cancel. They kept $420.00 for administration fees. You can give your money to so many different companies. Give it to ones who when the world feels like it is crumbling, decides to do the human thing and give 100% of your money back when no services were provided. BTW, everyone else in town refunded our money (whether it was Carriage rides, surf lessons, restaurants) with no problems.
Stephanie, We are sorry your vacation fell during the beginning of CoVid. We offered you to reschedule your vacation with no additional fees but you chose a refund. We kept the cost of the credit card fees as you were advised when you called to cancel. The Isle of Palms was open and other rental companies were not offering any refunds only moving of dates. Unlike activities where you hold a date/ time slot, booking a home for thousands of dollars is much different. Thanks again for booking with us, we wish your family good health and safety.

After short term rentals were banned, they still refused to refund the full amount of my rental and kept their 10%. That is their policy however, the landlord could not provide the services so the entire amount should have been refunded. They offered me to re-book but because of so many work meetings and trips being rescheduled I could not nail down a date at this time. I would have been charged a re-booking fee if i had to change it. Very disappointing and bad business in my opinion. I will never book anything with this company again.

We have offered all our guests the option to use 100% of their rental amount towards another stay within a year. You mention in your review that we would have charged you a rebooking fee. In out numerous correspondence in efforts to accommodate your rescheduling a rebooking fee was never discussed or required. The only mention was if the new dates you chose were a higher rate, you would be required to pay the difference. For example, you were coming in April shoulder season, and if you rescheduled for July peak season, the rates would be higher. You opted for a refund, and we refunded you less 10% of the base rental amount, which comes out to 8% of the total paid. We had hoped that our cancellation and rescheduling options would accommodate all our guests and we apologize you did not feel it was satisfactory.

If you are headed to the Charleston area and looking for a great beach rental on Isle of Palms, East Islands Rentals is your best bet for great options and awesome customer service. The properties are clean and well-maintained and the staff are very attentive to your needs. Isle of Palms is a great place for a family vacation and East Islands has a lot of good rental choices for families. Our family always loves our visits to the Isle of Palms and East Islands is always ready to assist us with our accommodations.

Fantastic rental company. My family likes to travel and are sometimes disappointed by rental companies. We like to come to Charleston once a year and we have been nothing short of impressed each time we use East Island Rentals. Family member rented from this realty company. COVID happened and we could not take the rental. Would not work with us to refund. I've rented from multiple other property management companies on VRBO and had to cancel vacations due to COVID and everyone else has been reasonable and offered a refund. Would not work with them again.

We have offered refunds to every guest who was affected during the island closure and COVID less our processing fee. The other option we offered was 100% credit towards another stay within a year with no rescheduling fees.
