I started banking here when the credit union was named NeKan Bell-back in the 70's.. We are very satisfied with their service. When I make my insurance payment, I can actually see it post while I am on the phone making the payment, even though the insurance company says it takes 5-7 days to post. Transfers between accounts are easy, as are transfers between MACU and our other banking institutions. My paychecks post as soon as they come in, unlike the delayed posts at our other banks. The only issue that I have is that they do not do transactions out of the United States.

I have been banking with this credit union for 10 years. I have multiple accounts of business and personal, and they are amazing to work with. The whole Overland Park branch is amazing, and Debbie Stang down in Wichita is a godsend!

I purchased a used 2005 Toyota Corolla Sport. My salesman referred me to Mid American Credit Union. They financed my Corolla for me. Shortly after paying off the loan, my car got wrecked. I was able to find a 2010 Corolla Sport on the internet. I am using Mid American Credit Union in Overland Park again. They've taken great care of me on both loans.

I wish, I could give them no STARS! I would never refer anyone to this bank. Please don’t waste your time with them. Late fees on top of late fees but no matter how long you been with them. They don’t even try to work with you. Even if you have money in the bank with them. This is ridiculous, it’s the account holders fault that they didn’t correct or even try to call about changing My ADDRESS AT ALL. I’ve been with this bank for couple years now but it’s definitely time to close my account because it’s not worth it anymore.

This bank rips you off over and over again! They have the slowest time to transfer money and they act like it's your fault when the money is there hit their system has not caught up even though your app shows the money it's not there so they charge it over and over and over again and act snotty and hateful when you ask them why does it show the money... Not worth the hassle take your money elsewhere

This review is in regards to how my service has been with an auto loan that went through the dealer to MidAmerican. My first issue with this credit union is that by the time my first payment was due, I had received mail that told me how to setup online banking or send in a payment through the mail. Obviously I was late after this point, because I hadn't received any communication on how that was done before hand. The documentation I received also did not tell me how I could pay online, I had to call in to receive that information only to find out there is a fee to be able to pay online. You can setup direct debit but you have to mail in or email a voided check, but they still will not confirm with you if that was set up properly. I had to call in to make sure they got it and set it up. Most of the communication is done through mail, which really really stinks as it's incredibly slow. There are some good things about this place, and I can't really attest to any of their other services, but if you enjoy modern banking with online communication and service then this credit union is NOT for you. TL;DR Pros: - Very nice on the phone and general person to person customer service. - Lots of banking choices - Basic online banking Cons: - Lack of online communication, most comes through the post and is incredibly slow. Some changes may have occurred already even after receiving some type of warning. (At least for auto loans) - Lack of modern online banking features - Fees in order to make online payments In general the lack of speed in regards to communication really really stinks. It would be so nice to receive communication through email. It's the 21st century! Communications through email are relatively cheap now days and should be required.

I had banked with this bank for about 12 years and just shut my accounts down. Not happy about it, I think my frustration lies with new management. I’d lived pretty far from the bank and always used it because it was small, easy to work with, they knew me. If I needed a loan I could just call up and tell them what I was thinking and get the best advice without running my report that’s not the case anymore. If you wanna call now you have to call the headquarters in Wichita, then Wichita transfers you to the branch if you ask them. Just an annoying step that not even real banks use. What made me shut down my account was when I was going to get another auto loan and the process. I was looking at a little older vehicle and had called up and asked what to go by as far as what they could loan because these particular vehicles sell for 5-8k above kbb/nada and was told to go by full nada value. Worked up a deal with a new one I wanted filled out the app, sold my vehicle, put a down payment on the other. Things were looking good. Called up, Wichita answered and I had asked questions then the agent told me I am getting a bad deal on the vehicle because it was above nada. The vehicles sell for above nada even on auction sites and this one was just barely above so I just blew it off as someone looking at it with blinders on and asked to be transferred to the bank. When I was transferred to the bank I was told they could only loan the max of around 75%80%. It was around 3k less which was frustrating but hey someone must have just made an error in what they told me. Annoyed but still ready to move on. Then they started asking me for needless things that I wasn’t asked for on my previous 6 loans. Like 3 months of proof of income? I was annoyed with that request because I told them I had direct deposit for 10 years from the same company, but here’s a picture of the check that shows it’s depositing in your bank. Then they made the buyer write out an unofficial bill of sale document on a piece of paper to “prove” it was being sold by over nada? Even though anyone can just write whatever they want on a piece of paper I hassled the seller to do it and sent it in. Then they wanted other info on that piece of paper so I hassled him again to make up a new one. Annoying but whatever, figured it must be a new policy, here’s your piece of paper. Then I was told I had to prove I had the extra money to pay the excess above what they’d give me and were wanting me to bring it in so they could put the money in the check. I told them seller wants cash and I’ve always just got the cash. They weren’t having it, seller agreed I could meet him at his bank, annoying but moving on. Again. So I go to my real bank and withdraw $5k to bring in. I’m starting to get a little nervous if Midwest will even take 100s at this point but go in and they said all was approved but it was for 1600 less than originally estimated. So overall they were going to give me half which was originally discussed. At this point in the day I didn’t have the time to go back to my bank and get more cash. Just used my cash to pay off my loans and shut down my accounts. My small bank was taken over by little Midwest city that thinks they may be the new Bank of America. Not hard to find more helpful banks in today’s financial climate. Customers have the upper hand don’t settle on this bank.

Absolute crooks, I filled out automatic draft for my car payment immediately after buying. They said they "lost it" and charged me insane late fees. I don't live close to the branch, so I've been making the payments over the phone for the past year, and they charge a fee, every, single, time, even though they lost the documents. Avoid at all costs! Half the time when I call to make the payment, nobody answers.

Your payment did not go through so we waited till we reported to the credit bureau before we sent you a notice of miss payment. 10.00 fee to make a payment online, 15.00 fee to make a payment thorough customer service. Hey i need my account #, " as a 1 time courtesy i can give it to you". absolutely ridiculous. It's like Scott Tucker is running this company, they don't care for the people. I'll never do business with this credit company again.

    Response from the owner

Hi Kevin, For security purpose, to protect your account, we do not give members their account number over the phone. However, you are able to find your account number on your statements or through your online banking. To set up online banking you can visit https://www.midamerican.coop/online-banking-help. On the late payment, we do not report to the credit bureau until 30 days after the late payment. Before the 30 days, you will receive a letter and calls from us about your missed payment. If you have any questions about the fees or how to sign-up for online banking you can reach out to our Contact Center (316) 722-3921 ext 202. Thank you!

I only had a little over $111 in the account. I tried to change my address 2 or 3 times and each time I was told I don't live at the address so they would not let me change my address. I thought no big deal they only charge fees if you have less than $100 in the account. Just over a year later I tried again to change my address when I was informed my account had been closed due to insufficient funds. I was informed they sent letters to the address that I told them I moved from and then I was charged a little over $20 for every letter they sent to the address I told them I no longer live at and they would not let me change my address because I didn't live there anymore. I left 1 star as I had to to leave this review but I would not even rate then at 1 star otherwise.
