This branch can be so unprofessional. I walked in the other day to get a temporary debit card. While being approached to get help there was no friendly greeting. A skinny girl with appear to be little dreads or natural hair like hairstyle was at the glass window, just so grumpy looking. I don’t understand how people can be this way when they are the face of the company, the first faces customers see when they walk in the door and the only thing you can offer a customer is a blank stare with a serious face as if we did something to you. Please get it together before you lose out on customers. This is unacceptable.

Worst bank ever, if you use this bank they are only good for the bare minimum if that, they are quick to add a fee even if you add money to your account within 5 minutes to cover the transaction. They also recently had some type of data breach , I only know because my cousins girlfriend also banks with them and she told me ! Her bank account was affected and cause her a lot of issues with her debit card. I had to reach out to customer service via the mobile app just for verification that they did have a a data breach and make sure my account was not affected. I got a simple “your account” was not affected , no apologies for not communicating to all members or anything, SECU is a way better bank ! I am in the process of closing my account

Walked in for a temporary bank car which takes 5 minutes , guy told me it was 20 minutes wait , cool waited for over a hour before I said anything... for him to say I’m sorry mam I understand and do nothing.I’m so frustrated they wasted 2 hours of my day NO REASON I SHOULD Have been in there for 2 hours for a bank card no reason that’s ridiculous and unacceptable. Never got my bank card because I got so frustrated. Closing my account with MECU soon as I can.

Your banking institution is a joke. Your emoloyees lack common sense and competence. Their lack of just general understanding is beyond frustrating. Something that should take a couple minutes gets drawn out to 30+ minutes. Your staff could truly benefit from some training in general math as well as how paying things off works. If I give you too much money you owe me money not the other banking institution. Your banking system is also beyond frustrating, something is always down. You don’t accept electronic fund transfers for a car payment from a well known institution, and instead insist on paper checks being mailed to you. Despite these checks being mailed out 2 weeks before they are due you don’t seem to get them nor post them in a timely fashion AVOID MECU FOR YOUR CAR LOAN AT ALL COSTS

Saturday drive thru hours posted as 1. Checked ahead to confirm Time and had gotten there shortly after 12 Was greeted by a line of customers(expected). Also greeted by a customer service agent who asked what I needed to do; go to a teller, I don’t have an atm card, only had ID. CR agent told me through the atm route.. that they’d be able to scan my ID.. there would be a live teller to assist (interesting). So I waited in line for about 15 mins to get assistance through the atm. Finally got to the atm and waited another 10 mins while the screen said something other than “a teller will be with you shortly”. Finally the screen asked for my atm card, which I had told the CR agent about not having, only having a cash deposit. The Same CR agent that had been helping me through the process had told me that they just closed and I’d have to use an atm card. Which was basically the fist thing I told him about. Then he told me to go online for my cash deposit, then told me to call in. Then this agent had began to argue with me about the time in which they closed and I had come in after they closed. If that were true, the agent should’ve told me prior to getting in line and instructing me to waste my time at an atm. Definitely, should not have argued with me. This location is the worst. If the place closer to me had availability during the weekends, I’d be there instead of arguing with old men about the time posted on the website, and how to make a payment at an establishment I’ve obviously been to. MECU is the worst place to bank at, and only gotten worse during this pandemic. It’s been about 10 months, it’s about time this place got its shiz together and worked with customers instead of fighting them, when they make a mistake. MECU: update information on the internet.

Please do not use MECU for your banking needs. I should have walked out the door when I first tried opening an account and they tried to tell me I don’t live in the city of Baltimore, even though both the Maryland MVA and US Post Office say I do. They grudgingly allowed me the honor of opening an account since I also work in Baltimore. If you need quarters for one of the many local laundromats, don’t bother with MECU. According to their employees they don’t exchange money for non-customers, or will claim to not have any rolls of quarters. They also don’t exchange money for MECU customers, claiming to not have any rolls of quarters, or any quarters at all. According to MECU it is fine and acceptable for them to surreptitiously re-order your transactions on a secret transaction record in an effort to induce insufficient funds and negative balance fees against your account. When the real transaction history and your statement shows that there was no real overdraw or negative balance you will have to then repeatedly demand they reverse any fees that were fraudulently charged. MECU will insist the fees are valid, even though all the evidence says otherwise. MECU has what they claim is a secure messaging service on their website, which requires you to be logged into your MECU account to use. However the secure messaging department will refuse to communicate with you about your account over their secure messaging service. The secure messaging department will also refuse to answer why there is the service if they refuse to use it as it is intended or supposed to be used. If you are traveling outside your home state MECU will randomly decide any transaction is possible fraud and turn off your card, even if you inform them ahead of time you will be traveling. They also will make ZERO effort to contact you to verify you still have your card or if the transactions are valid. After you call in to get your card turned back on, and have another note put on file that you are traveling, you will soon find your card deactivated again. When you call in, again, MECU will then tell you that no one actually reads the account notes on file. After calling in multiple days to get your card reactivated, MECU will tell you that even though you tell them the charges that keep happening in the same area in the same businesses are valid, what MECU considers suspicious activity changes daily and completely overrides what the rules were for the previous day. Plan on having to call in and jump through security hoops with multiple departments to have your card turned back on daily if you travel anywhere outside your home state. The ATMs at their banks very often are completely non-functional, or have a major malfunction-not being able to dispense or accept any cash for instance, most often not working before and during long weekends. If you have a fraudulent or unauthorized charge on your account MECU will initially refuse to investigate or do anything about it, and then eventually will take all the necessary information to investigate and reverse the charge. Then instead of investigating and reversing the fraudulent or unauthorized charge, or anything else useful, they will just close your account, waiting until after they’ve closed it to notify you the account is closed, then ignore and refuse to acknowledge any communication attempts from you to them. If you are a fan of constant and blatant incompetence, abuse, and ineptitude from a bank or credit union MECU is the perfect place for you.
Dear KM, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We noticed that you posted the same review on multiple MECU listings so we are posting our reply multiple times as well. It’s clear that you experienced a number of issues and we’re sorry that your experience fell short of our high standards. We are always listening to our members to find ways to improve and your feedback will be shared with MECU senior leadership. For privacy reasons, we can’t discuss your specific account, but we did want to address a few general items: • Membership eligibility – our field of membership is defined by the DLLR and the NCUA, our state and federal regulators. Currently, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Baltimore City can become a member. In addition, family members of existing members and employees of select Baltimore area employers are also eligible. If you don’t meet any of those conditions, you may also join the American Consumer Council to qualify. • Rolled coins – our rolled coin service is reserved for MECU members. We do provide rolled coins to members upon request, based on available supplies at the branch. • ATMs – we monitor our ATMs 24/7 and service technicians are dispatched to quickly repair equipment issues that affect ATM service. • Travel notices – we encourage all members to let us know when they are traveling out of the area so we may notate their account and reduce the likelihood of unnecessarily flagging a card for unusual activity. However, the travel alert is just one of many factors our fraud team uses in identifying unusual transaction activity. Our top priority is safeguarding and protecting our members’ accounts. • Account closure – closing accounts is a rare occurrence and we always attempt to first resolve the issue with the member. This includes multiple letters with details regarding what actions are required and key deadlines. If the required actions are not completed, we may take additional action per the terms of our membership agreement. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we hope you may consider giving us another chance to win back your trust in the future.

Worst bank I've ever dealt with since getting credit 30 years ago! I have yet to speak with a representative that can actually fix the issues that are happening on their end! If you do not want your credit screwed DO NOT BANK OR USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY LOANS!

The wait was unnecessarily long for a Friday early afternoon. I was called and then told I couldn't be helped yet cus I 'had papers' so I just stood there until I realized I had to sit back down and ended up waiting 30 more minutes. I was finslly told they didnt want me to feel like they were skipping over me but terrible customer service, especially for a bank.

MECU is by far the worst credit union ever and it should be shut down for GOOD!! Not to mention, their atm machines stay down ALL of the time! 🤬
