Rita has helped me on multiple occasions at this branch, and every single time, she clearly communicates the bank's needs. This keeps my bank visits short and sweet. Her professionalism and compassion are exemplary.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We are happy to hear that Rita provided you positive banking experience! We value her and her contributions to MECU.

When a customers comes in the bank and tell customer service that someone is using a bank card that was never received by the her. The rep kept insisting that the card was use. by her. If you come in the bank and tell them the card expired please send a new card. Never received the card and found out card had wrong address then the rep order a new card, when customer never received two cards, But some how someone else did and some how they was able to set up the card and with drew funds from several atm machine. Had to get management involved, Then was given a number to call the credit card to cancel the card. The people from the card service did not want to help neither. They hung up three time until management got involved. If you were at work all day long how in the world can the rep accused a person to steal when you are coming for help with your account. If you need help don't go here . I even told them to check the camera to find out who is using that card. Either someone from the bank or the post office stole the card. I contacted the post office too.

I was charged 8 qty $30.00 fees over the course of a few days. No help on the phone. Went to MLK branch today (3/30/22) just before 3 pm (4pm closing time) and was told there was a 2 hr wait to see someone about the charges. I saw one person waiting. This is poor banking, robbery of the poor and poor customer service.

The one star I'm giving this bank is because every time I've been in, the employees have been very courteous. Outside of that, everything about this bank is ineffective, archaic, and lends to making customers feel disrespected. Customers are required to line up sometimes around the block in order to gain entry, on multiple visits, the ATM machine was out of order, online banking is limited and most things have to be done in person (which almost always means a RIDICULOUS wait). It seems like this bank treats its customers (who are actually part owners as this is a credit union) like we are not worthy of a stellar banking experience. One must ask, WHY NOT?

Im only giving this bank one star. I dont think they deserve it. I am thankful for the fact that i got a great APR on auto loan, but thats pretty much where my appreciation stops. First, you cant pay on an auto loan from MECU, without having a checking acct. Im not really sure why, but i got one just for that purpose. I dont have anything good to say about this bank on any issue. Im not sure why they dont want me to pay back my auto loan, but at every turn, i run into roadblocks. I live on the tip of southern tip of MD, in Lexington Park. NO BRANCHES & NO ATMS!

I hate this branch! Very unprofessional! I waited two hours to open a savings account, only to be told I needed more documents, such as proof of name on lease or BGE bill. The next day I went to Bank of America and everything was hassle free. I cannot wait to close my account, after being a member of MECU over 10yrs, and this is how they treat me
Hi Candice, we apologize for the inconvenience. Your comments have been shared with the appropriate staff and a manager will reach out to you shortly. Thank you.

Horrible customer service. Their tellers are super rude and have bad attitudes, and the account managers act like they're doing YOU a favor by letting you get YOUR money. This is one of the worst banking experiences I've ever had.
This is definitely not the experience we want our members to have at any of our branches. I will pass your review along to the Branch Manager. If you would like to reach out to us directly, please email [email protected]. I've very sorry for your experience.

Please do not use MECU for your banking needs. I should have walked out the door when I first tried opening an account and they tried to tell me I don’t live in the city of Baltimore, even though both the Maryland MVA and US Post Office say I do. They grudgingly allowed me the honor of opening an account since I also work in Baltimore. If you need quarters for one of the many local laundromats, don’t bother with MECU. According to their employees they don’t exchange money for non-customers, or will claim to not have any rolls of quarters. They also don’t exchange money for MECU customers, claiming to not have any rolls of quarters, or any quarters at all. According to MECU it is fine and acceptable for them to surreptitiously re-order your transactions on a secret transaction record in an effort to induce insufficient funds and negative balance fees against your account. When the real transaction history and your statement shows that there was no real overdraw or negative balance you will have to then repeatedly demand they reverse any fees that were fraudulently charged. MECU will insist the fees are valid, even though all the evidence says otherwise. MECU has what they claim is a secure messaging service on their website, which requires you to be logged into your MECU account to use. However the secure messaging department will refuse to communicate with you about your account over their secure messaging service. The secure messaging department will also refuse to answer why there is the service if they refuse to use it as it is intended or supposed to be used. If you are traveling outside your home state MECU will randomly decide any transaction is possible fraud and turn off your card, even if you inform them ahead of time you will be traveling. They also will make ZERO effort to contact you to verify you still have your card or if the transactions are valid. After you call in to get your card turned back on, and have another note put on file that you are traveling, you will soon find your card deactivated again. When you call in, again, MECU will then tell you that no one actually reads the account notes on file. After calling in multiple days to get your card reactivated, MECU will tell you that even though you tell them the charges that keep happening in the same area in the same businesses are valid, what MECU considers suspicious activity changes daily and completely overrides what the rules were for the previous day. Plan on having to call in and jump through security hoops with multiple departments to have your card turned back on daily if you travel anywhere outside your home state. The ATMs at their banks very often are completely non-functional, or have a major malfunction-not being able to dispense or accept any cash for instance, most often not working before and during long weekends. If you have a fraudulent or unauthorized charge on your account MECU will initially refuse to investigate or do anything about it, and then eventually will take all the necessary information to investigate and reverse the charge. Then instead of investigating and reversing the fraudulent or unauthorized charge, or anything else useful, they will just close your account, waiting until after they’ve closed it to notify you the account is closed, then ignore and refuse to acknowledge any communication attempts from you to them. If you are a fan of constant and blatant incompetence, abuse, and ineptitude from a bank or credit union MECU is the perfect place for you.
Dear KM, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We noticed that you posted the same review on multiple MECU listings so we are posting our reply multiple times as well. It’s clear that you experienced a number of issues and we’re sorry that your experience fell short of our high standards. We are always listening to our members to find ways to improve and your feedback will be shared with MECU senior leadership. For privacy reasons, we can’t discuss your specific account, but we did want to address a few general items: • Membership eligibility – our field of membership is defined by the DLLR and the NCUA, our state and federal regulators. Currently, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Baltimore City can become a member. In addition, family members of existing members and employees of select Baltimore area employers are also eligible. If you don’t meet any of those conditions, you may also join the American Consumer Council to qualify. • Rolled coins – our rolled coin service is reserved for MECU members. We do provide rolled coins to members upon request, based on available supplies at the branch. • ATMs – we monitor our ATMs 24/7 and service technicians are dispatched to quickly repair equipment issues that affect ATM service. • Travel notices – we encourage all members to let us know when they are traveling out of the area so we may notate their account and reduce the likelihood of unnecessarily flagging a card for unusual activity. However, the travel alert is just one of many factors our fraud team uses in identifying unusual transaction activity. Our top priority is safeguarding and protecting our members’ accounts. • Account closure – closing accounts is a rare occurrence and we always attempt to first resolve the issue with the member. This includes multiple letters with details regarding what actions are required and key deadlines. If the required actions are not completed, we may take additional action per the terms of our membership agreement. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we hope you may consider giving us another chance to win back your trust in the future.

Worst bank I've ever dealt with since getting credit 30 years ago! I have yet to speak with a representative that can actually fix the issues that are happening on their end! If you do not want your credit screwed DO NOT BANK OR USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY LOANS!

I was at this location, when I car what hit on the parking lot... WHAT TOOK PLACE NEXT::: is very alarming. As anyone who car it hit due to, "hit and run" your angry, and want justice! You figure a bank MUST Have adequate cameras to protect its establishment and its customers, WRONG!!!!!! You are ON YOUR OWN, once you leave the bank.... THE ONLY camera the have is the one in the front... and it ONLY cover the front door, side walk, and the entrance(near the front door) IF YOUR CAR is damaged on there lot - ITS your PROBLEM! I can only imagine if I was ROBBED, would they have adequate cameras???? Oh yeah ... rite aid cameras only cover if you're parked right under the camera😤
Hi Jamie, thank you for sharing your review and sorry to hear about your vehicle. The security of our members is our top priority and we take this responsibility very seriously. The parking lot is shared among all the tenants and managed by the property manager, not MECU. We recommend filing a report with the local authorities and we can certainly assist in any way possible.
