I have been a member of HLEFCU for about 10 years now and within 4 years we actually moved away to North Carolina. We actually decided to stay with HLEFCU anticipating that we would be returning in the near future back to Hawaii. We've bought two homes since being here and with our sister branches here in NC we've had no problems. There have been a few times that I've had to coordinate with the main office and they have been such a great support and wonderful people to work with. Overall, we've had great experiences with HLEFCU.

On July 1st 2021 unbeknownst to me or my husband after checking my checking acct, noticed there was a transaction made that neither of us requested. I immediately called HLEFCU and the person on the other end of the phone had graciously guided me through the steps that needed to be taken. I'm so grateful to her which by the way her name is Jeanette Person. Jeanette was very patient with me and probably had to repeat herself many times over(thank you Jeanette)but nevertheless with her help I was able to get the ball rolling and 5 days later the transaction had been canceled and funds returned to my account. 8 days later I got to put a face to the voice I've been communicating with for 2 days straight. Thank you for your patience, advice, and guidance. Aloha

This account was opened for me by my father years ago. Trying to move away from traditional banks and use credit unions, I revived my account here with Hawaii Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union. I gave HLEFCU multiple chances, for the brief period I used them there were way too many issues with online banking, mistakes made by tellers with basic deposits and transfers, debit card issues etc. I am all for second chances but not fourth or fifth chances. I did notice that the tellers here are very inexperienced compared to other banks and credit unions, they need better training. On a side note, this isnt the most friendly place to bank, very rude and dismissive when it came to service both in person and over the phone. I have moved back to my regular bank and larger credit union, both are able to properly handle basic banking.

    Response from the owner

Aloha Heather, thank you for your honest feedback. We are in the process of revising our training, among other changes, and would like to learn more about your experience to better pinpoint recurring issues. If you're willing to have a brief chat with us regarding your experience, please call me at 808-447-2226. Thank you in advance for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hawaii Law Enforcement needs to get their act together, not only does their service suck but constant mistakes with my account and their online banking always has some kind of issue. Every time I go into the branch there are brand new employees..again, which says a lot about the management. Thank heavens I have Hawaii State Federal Credit Union.

My debit card was flagged restricted...I have no clue why. I have more than enough money in my account for the items that I had purchased that have a 3 day hold. You would think if you flag an account that they would send me an email why they are doing it...but nope, nothing from them...and how I found out was I was purchasing dinner and was told about it. So I couldn’t get dinner because of that.

    Response from the owner

Aloha Margaret! Thank you for your review! First, let me apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. We looked into your specific case and found that our security department automatically declined the transaction due to a duplicate transaction concern. Again, we apologize for the convenience this cause you, but please know that we have these protocols in place for your protection. If you'd like to discuss this in more detail, please give us a call at 808.973.4311. We hope to have the pleasure of serving you again soon! Mahalo Nui and hope you have a great weekend!

WORST CREDIT UNION ON THE ISLAND. Way too many mistakes, Veronica Vallejos was rude when I asked her about a mistake that was the credit unions fault. At one time this was my main bank, thankfully I went elsewhere. Every time I come into the main branch there are band new employees, why is that? and they all look so miserable.

    Response from the owner

Aloha Katrina, I'm sorry your experience with us was not up to standard. However, I'd like to discuss your experience with you so that we may learn from it and take steps to better ourselves. Please call me at 808.447.2226 to talk. I greatly appreciate it and thank you in advance.

not very friendly or helpful staff thats for sure, asked a teller a simple question about a mortgage and was told "sure we can help you with that, but making the payments can be difficult sometimes" what does that mean?? thanks I'll look somewhere else lol

    Response from the owner

Aloha Am A, I'm sorry your experience with us didn't live up to your expectation. However, I can assure that mortgage payments with the Credit Union are not difficult. We service all of our mortgages in-house, so you'll never have to speak with a mainland company when dealing with your mortgage. If you'd like to learn more about our mortgage program, please call me at 808.447.2226. Even if you no longer wish to learn more about our mortgages, I would still like to chat with you regarding your experience so that we may take the steps necessary to improve our level of service. Thank you in advance for your time and hope you have a happy and safe holidays!
