I walked into the N branch of GNCU yesterday afternoon to withdraw some money from my account. There were four tellers at their windows. Two were busy helping customers. The others were assumably finishing up other business. I waited as one teller finished and walked away. I continued to wait. Nobody greeted me or said, “we will be with you in a minute”. One teller (Joy) was called over to help both the other tellers with customers with an override. I waited patiently. Upon her return to her window she continued working on her computer as I approached her and asked if she could help me. Her response, was “ I don’t know we will see”. I knew from my observation that she must be a supervisor which made me assume she was capable of helping me. As she did help me there was no “hello”, or “have a nice day” or “thank you”. Just unfriendly efficiency at that point. I stewed about my experience for 24 hours and decided to speak with a manager about it face to face. As I did so today Joy introduced herself as an assistant manager and the manager to her left. I said, “good maybe between both of them they could explain why I had received the kind of service I had. BTW at this time there is only one other member in the room and he was at the loan desk. I tried to explain my experience, Joy left to help a customer that had just arrived (rightly so although I had hoped she could help me better understand where she was coming from). I did not yell, but I was not quiet either as they began to receive more customers/members they asked me to step over “there”. I told them I was not really concerned if others overheard about my bad experience. The manager continued to apologize about my experience, they have new tellers and he can use this in training. He was sorry I was not greeted. I think it was more than that. I felt frustrated and got indignant that I was not being heard. I asked to understand better what the other teller’s tasks might have been so that I could rectify in my mind they were busy doing good things and I needed to be more patient. I was told that because he was not there that he did not know. Wouldn’t this have been a good time to ask Joy or the other teller that walked away. I was there today at the same time as yesterday - maybe that could spark a memory. I have been a member for 30 years and have not ever been displeased in this way with my service. What is happening? I hope this is not a trend. I hope to not have to find another financial institution. One star for this experience!

    Response from the owner

We’re really sorry to hear about this experience, Corina, and as a member of over 30 years, we truly value your relationship with us. As you have seen, we are experiencing the same staffing issues as many businesses and we are doing our best to train new staff so we can better serve our customers in a timely and friendly manner. That being said, our in-person customers take priority and we will ensure more communication to notify our customers of what we’re working on and when we’ll be able to help- you’re right, acknowledgement is key. Thank you for sharing your experience. We would like a chance to make this right. If you contact us at [email protected] we would be happy to continue this conversation and make you feel heard, and see what else we can do to make this right.

Wish I could give a negative rating. Was considering this bank but quickly reconsidered & I think the internet should know. This bank will continuously charge you overdraft fees and will not reimburse you for such incidents. One accidental charge that causes you to overdraft your account can cost you $100. I’ve had two friends now tell me that even after multiple calls and emails the bank was unforgiving and unwilling to work with them. Both friends have since closed out the accounts. Greater NV Credit Union, if you’re reading this, evolve or die. We’re living in a time where consumers have many options to choose from, and your options suck.

I started the process of refinancing my car 3 weeks ago, and I am still not even scheduled to sign the loan yet. The entire consumer lending department is dodgy, and has only answered their phone once despite the 6 or 7 times I have tried calling over the last 2 weeks. My lending agent was supposed to “call me back” in 5 minutes. That was over an hour ago. I called him twice. No answer. This place is a headache to do any kind of business with. No one can get through to the party that you need to talk to. Ever. Emails “get lost”. Voicemails are not responded to. The line at my branch is always out the door, which makes it a 15-20 minute stop every time. 0 out of 10 would not recommend. Try a different Credit Union.

    Response from the owner

I do not recommend this bank. If I could give them a negative star rating, I would. I was being required to show my ID every time I made a deposit, even though I only deposit cash (the most being $200) and use the pre-printed deposit slip from them. The response I received when questioning the "new policy" is that this ensures they put the money in the correct account. EXCUSE ME!? #1 My ID does not have my account number on it. My pre-printed deposit slip does. #2 You're seriously telling me you cannot accurately do your job and therefore I have to give you my ID because you're incompetent?! I told the teller to give me my money and close my account. Her manager, Joy, came over, literally tossed my cash back at me (I had to catch it as it slid across the counter so some of it wouldn't fall on the floor). She was rude during the entire process and would not give me a cashier's check, resulting in me walking out with over $5,000 in cash. This happened on 4/21/21. I am still very upset with the inconvenience and rudeness of this branch, which affects their entire company; especially since it was a manager who acted inappropriately.

    Response from the owner

Hi Trish, thank you for sharing your experience. We aim to provide quality service to all members, and would like to resolve your concerns as quickly as possible. We have notified the Branch Manager for immediate follow up, and they will reach out to you directly. We value your membership, and thank you again for bringing your concern to our attention.

I purchased a new vehicle in July 2016 and was financed through Frontier Financial Credit Union at time of purchase. In 2017, Greater Nevada Credit Union took over my loan from Frontier Financial. Since the day that Greater Nevada Credit Union took control of my loan, I have experienced nothing but problem after problem with billing and late charges on my account. First, in February 2018, I received notice that my loan had not been pain in several billing cycles and was now delinquent even though I had been sending MORE than the minimum payments on time every month. Confused, I visited the branch in Carson City to discover the issues with my loan. At the branch, I was informed that the money I had been sending was being placed in a savings account under my name. I had never done business with Greater Nevada and was not made aware they had opened a checking account with my credentials WITHOUT MY CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE. I NEVER agreed to have a savings account in my name but was told I was required to have an account since my loan is now through their business. I was then informed that the loan number from my Frontier Financial loan was now my SAVINGS account number with Greater Nevada despite never having received knowledge of this change or documentation stating the change. I requested the money be moved from the savings account to the loan account on the dates of deposits (how they should have been in the first place). GNCU complied, and reversed the late charge associated with my account. It took 2.5 hours in branch for GNCU to reach this agreement. In March 2018, the exact same issue happened once again with my loan. The payments I had been sending (now with the updated account information) were still being applied incorrectly into my savings account. Again, I visited the branch to resolve the issue. GNCU again agreed to their own negligence in regard to the proper deposit location of my payments. I was promised the reversal of the late charges that were incurred on my account due to their mistakes, but the promise never came to fruition as there still remains a late charge for the month of March. This visit lasted 2 hours in branch. On September 21, 2018, I again visited the branch as I received notice that a check sent to the branch on June 22, 2018 had never been cashed and had not cleared my account. I provided proof to the branch that I had sent the live check to their branch that had never been deposited. They requested written proof which I had my bank fax them directly. I was told they never received this fax despite confirmation from my bank that it was sent and received on their end. Again, I was charged late fees in July and September as the payment had not been deposited into my account. GNCU insisted that it was IMPOSSIBLE they received the check since it had not been deposited despite that I provided proof of the live check dated to be delivered June 22nd. As a resolution, I offered to pay the balance immediately for my June payment under the condition that late charges associated with the missing check being removed from my account. GNCU refused to remove the late charges or acknowledge any wrongdoing. This visit was 2.5 hours in length spanning 2 desperate time-frames. Greater Nevada Credit Union has been entirely negligent with my account since they start of their taking over for my loan. I followed all procedures according to my loan document and information provided by GNCU but issues still arose with my account on multiple occasions. Despite the responsibility provably (AND PROVIDED TO GNCU PREVIOUSLY) residing with GNCU, they refused to correct the issue or reverse the late charges on my account that should have never been applied in the first place. To top it all off, I just found out they couldn't even manage to enter my birthday correctly into their system when the loan was transferred. Absolute joke of a business where negligence and incompetence runs rampant.

I have an auto loan with GNCU. I sent in a direct pay form over a month ago. I do not see a pending payment on the online portal even though the payment is due in 2 days. I called your bank yesterday and again today. The person I talked to was not able to help me either day and have been told that I will get a call back tomorrow. Due to my work schedule I am not always available, If I miss the call, how will I know whether I need to do something else to make sure the payment is going through or not?. This is an example of poor customer service and a poor on-line banking site. I am just trying to avoid a late payment and confirm that you have received the direct deposit form, and yet I can not get this information by phone or via your website.

They have an extremely hard time setting up and cancelling recurring transfers from my account to another bank account. I spent hours on the phone and in person at the bank(multiple times) trying to stop a simple recurring transfer. Most banks offer these services online or through a phone app but GNCU does not. It was less work to just close my accounts and go somewhere else.

What I hate about it: Like any other financial institution Fees and more fees!!! I am sorry but I am not paying $5 per statement, I tried signing up for online banking and what a headache I had to call tech support because I entered incorrect information that doesn't match what's on their records so I called tech support and guess what? I have to wait for them to call me back! Really? I am sorry but unfortunately I have a life and work and cannot be hanging by the phone waiting for tech support to call me!!!

Service inside the bank is great but every time I try to do anything bank related online it's a hassle. I couldn't enroll for online banking or even activate my debit card. If I can't do anything online without going to the branch than why offer that service

    Response from the owner

Hi, Terry. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I will be sharing your review with our VP of Digital Solutions and would like to set up a time for a call where you can share with us more in depth your experience with our products.
