Don't waste your time. They look great on paper, but failed to follow through and communication was poor. I spent over a month researching credit unions and talked to Westerra multiple times before submitting an application for a HELOC. We have outstanding credit and are doing a home improvement/remodel. Almost zero risk to the credit union to approve the application. Yet, our application was denied. Turns out the rep incorrectly relayed the project scope to underwriting and they are stating it is construction related. Yet, HELOCs are approved (and advertised) all the time for home remodels/ improvements. Not sure how to do a remodel without construction being involved? Even worse is they have not owned up to their mistake to get it corrected. Despite multiple requests for a phone call from a supervisor they are still very slow to even follow up.

I have been with Westerra way before it was called Westerra an I can say it is a bank. It functions the way I expect a bank to function. Today I had to wire money and one thing led to another and it ended up being a very long transaction that actually never happened because of a very good teller. I am sorry I did not get your name but we both worked at Starbucks once. You were amazing! I will get a cashier check like you suggested. Thanks again!

I have been with Westerra for years and things are really getting ridiculous with this financial institution. The customer service is less than stellar and they are now denying more than one roll of coins to members. The 2 roll limit was doable, but this is ridiculous! I need coins to run a business. What does a bank do if not dispense money? I have other annoyances regarding my personal account and the way they do business. Honestly, I am getting very close to doing all of my business elsewhere.

Hand to God the worst place to get someone useful on the phone. It’s like they hired the greeters from Walmart to answer the phones. Know how to do your jobs people. Other than that, I guess they are alright.

Look elsewhere. All I wanted to do was open an account. I didn't want a "free" financial review or the national parks pass. Not only did they not have time for me when I went in, but they did a hard pull on my credit, then claimed I owed money to 2 other banks I've never banked with, and who don't even show up when I check my own credit. I've had the same account with a big bank for nearly 20 years and I guess I'll be staying now. Edit: Ended up opening a new account at chase without even have to physically go in, and I've had zero problems there for about 8 months now, they've actually been great.

I'm really easy to please when it comes to my shared coop branches of credit unions. This particular one has a covered inside waiting area, was open late and seemed not only well kept but also seemed quite safe. I'll be coming back here again. UPDATE: took me a week to get back a check the atm ate. Westerra was friendly enough(actually super helpful) but im still not trusting this ATM again

I have been a member for close to 20 years and I guess I stuck around for so long because I always assumed that a local credit union would be an opportunity to build a more personal relationship and therefore better interest rates than with large banks. I bought my first home a few years ago and the interest rate they quoted me here was no where near competitive to my current lender. I also tried getting a car loan last year and the interest rate was much higher than what I received (more than 1 percent higher). I recently reached out about possibly refinancing my car loan and I have yet to hear back from anyone. Overall, I am very disappointed, especially after 20 years! I hate to admit it, but larger banks have much better rates and better service.

They are definitely worth a 0 star review, I had an auto loan through them and it took them almost a full month to give me my final paperwork. I left voicemail after voicemail with Jeff, Andrew AND Tim. The wait time on calls are ridiculous, when you are on hold so you are on a call back list and then they never call you back. The customer service is beyond irritating. My best advice for anyone who is considering this company is LOOK ELSEWHERE.

    Response from the owner

Hi Jacqueline Fowler, we are sorry to hear about your experience. Auto loan paperwork usually takes a few weeks to process, but due to COVID-19 your paperwork was delayed. However, we sent your paperwork via regular mail and also gave you another way to access it faster. Feel free to email us at [email protected] if you need any further assistance and if would want to provide additional details of when you called in to our Contact Center, left your phone number and never received a call back. We want to look into this to better serve you and our members. Thank you

Customer service in this location is terrible. Today was the last straw. I tried to deposit a check in the amount of $35.45 into my checking. The check was in my name 1st and then my partners name. It came from American Family Insurance. My partner does not have a Westerra account. He signed his name on the check as did I, however they would not take the check because he was not present nor did I have his ID with me (which is weird to suggest I would have someone else’s ID with me). I took the check to Chase across the street because it was drawn from JP Morgan. I am not associate at all with JP Morgan Chase in any way. They cashed the check for me and waved a fee that would be charged to anyone without an account with them. I took the $35.45 back to the drive thru at Westerra. I put the chase envelop and my ID into the tube. I waited, the teller sent back the receipt and my ID without one word spoken. After a few years with Westerra, next week I will be closing this account and moving on to another Credit Union. Westerra, you can thank this one teller, her attitude and smirks, lack of professionalism, and your policy concerning my $35.45 for the loss of my account.

We got an auto loan through Westerra and had nothing but problems with the final payment. Payment posted to our account, they sent a payoff letter and the title, then said there was a problem and the payment never went through. We didn't receive that notice until 6 weeks after we attempted to payoff the loan. Customer service personnel were rude and lied to us over the phone multiple times. I closed all accounts and will NEVER do business with them again. The only reason they got one star is because I can't give them no stars.
