I have mixed experiences banking with VACU. I’ve had VACU as my bank for 12 years and when I first joined, my experiences were wonderful. The most recent issue I have had is with the customer service I’ve received calling member services. I lost my wallet last week, which included my drivers license, credit and debit cards, among other items. I called Tuesday to report it lost. I initially called MasterCard and they took care of my needs in terms of cancelling the cards and placing an order for new cards. They then told me to call member services if I needed my cards expedited, which, I did. I called member services who transferred to the lost and found department who transferred me back to MasterCard after a long hold. I was then told by MasterCard, yet again, that VACU was the only one with authority to expedite my card. I had to call VACU again and was told that I’d be transferred back to MasterCard... I explained the situation to them and they finally transferred me to someone helpful in members services who told me she would take the $20 out of my account to expedite the card, which I agreed to. She told me I should be receiving the card by noon on Friday and to call back if I had not received it by then. So of course Friday comes around and I haven’t received my card. I call member services yet again as I was told to. This time I received a really nasty person on the phone who was angry that I couldn’t tell her my drivers license number because I had lost my wallet in the mail. She rudely said, “Well I have to confirm who you are with SOMETHING,” this was after I told her my name, address, DOB, SSN, and account number... anyway after this ordeal, I explain the situation and she raises her voice at me saying, “WHY WOULD ANYONE TELL YOU YOU’D GET A CARD BY FRIDAY WHEN WE ONLY MADE IT YESTERDAY?” I explained to her that I did not know they took several days to make it, I was just told the absolute latest I should receive it, which was Friday at noon. I checked Friday at 4:30pm. Anyway, my most recent experiences have soured my taste for VACU. I do have another, more commercial bank that has been more helpful, so I will be switching banks completely to them. You don’t get good interest back with VACU and because of covid, the interest paid has reduced tremendously, while its stayed the same at other banks. They’re nice if you’re a student, but as an adult, they’re not keeping up with the times.
Thank you for your feedback, Cheryll. We are sorry to hear you had a difficult time obtaining your cards, and would like to talk to you more about your experience. Please email us at [email protected] with the best time and phone number to reach you and someone will reach out.

This is not a full branch anymore. Please update the info regardless of whether you have a choice in the matter. Stop wasting customers precious time.
Hi Victoria. We'd like to hear more about your experience because this is indeed a fully functional branch when the state has the building open for service. Please email us at [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to leave us review!

Whenever a check is deposited, it is automatically held until approximately 9:30am the following business day. In other words, the money will not become available until that time. When you deposit a check, it does not reflect in the account whatsoever until it posts. If by accident, you enter the wrong amount when using mobile deposit, they debit the entire amount out of your account (possibly causing it to be overdrawn), charge you any applicable fees, and then add the corrected amount by 9:30am the next business day. In other words, don't make any mistakes, because VACU will penalize you for it! Also, we have experienced fraudulent activity on one of our debit cards, and have had to call the number on the back of the card, which is not VACU, but a company called PSCU, and they are absolutely horrible as well. To make a long story short, they shut down the wrong card two weeks after another had been reported lost or stolen. They have a habit of not putting in a request for a new card to be sent out. And when they do send out a new card, it comes signature required. We explained to them that our Fed Ex driver refuses to come to our suite in our office building and just leaves a door tag at the main entrance; therefore, we asked them to send it signature no required. Well, today I received the final door tag, and the card is being returned to VACU. Now, two of my employees do not have company cards. PSCU and VACU will gladly point the finger at one another, and neither want to take responsibility. Steer clear of this credit union. Nothing but trouble.

Never bank with Virginia Credit Union. Predators in banking and the worse bank I have ever dealt with. Thank god for USAA and Navy Federal who know how to treat customers. #infuriated 1st. Never a day late or a dollar short on payments my Credit Score dipped 10 whole points when I was submitting applications for renting. They raise my rate from 8.9% to 16%. Navy Federal and USAA didn’t. 2nd. Paid off all but 100.00 on the card. Should have paid it all but left 100.00 on it because I am stupid. Those creeps charged me the interest from the paid off balance. They said because it wasn’t paid in full????!!! What? I paid of 5k but they charged me on the 100.00 left. 3rd- They’re Mobil app and website are useless. (They need a better web developer and user studies because they are both equally terrible. 4th- The customer service people both by phone and in person are literally idiot, Goons. They apologize and explain but never recover or assist.

The worst of Credit Unions, they are the personified symbol of greed, they hire only the worst employees in the industry and pay the worst wages under the sun. Stay away from these guys + PLEASE tell everybody to stay away from them including the worst of your enemies...

This location is closed and has been since 2020. The ATM is still there.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us, Door. Since this branch is inside of a state owned building, we unfortunately do not have control over opening that branch. Please visit vacu.org/locations for the nearest open branch.

Been with them for about seven years and while there are improvements that need to be made, mobile app especially, it's been great
