This is a little embarrassing for me to admit, but I've had my account with this bank since the early 80s. It hasn't been my primary account for several years now, but I kept it open for a few reasons. If I had extra cash I would drop it in there as "fun money", and my parents had their accounts there. After my dad passed away I thought it would be easier in the unfortunate event that I was to lose my mom as well. No more. After nearly 40 years of being a loyal customer to their terrible customer service, I will be closing my account with them. My "fun money" account has just been sitting idle with about 8 bucks in it after I moved out of the area, and with the crazy year that 2020 was there wasn't really any extra to put in there. Well, without warning, last week they decided to hit me with a mysterious "Service charge" of $10. They purposely overdrafted my account, and promptly started charging me $5 a day in overdraft fees. I made 2 separate bank transfers trying to keep up with their fees. I have lost $50 trying to keep my $8 account current, that THEY overdrafted with a surprise fee. No email, no phone call, just a piece of snail mail letting me know I was overdrawn well after the fact. I assume that even though they've stolen fifty bucks from me, it isn't actually criminal. Heck, it was probably in the fine print when I signed the contract as a 13 year old kid with a paper route. But it sure as hell is unethical. And the icing on the cake of nearly 40 years of bad experiences and pathetic customer service. Good riddance. Edited March 26th 2021 In response to the Equitable Bank's reply to this review I sent and email (as I had already called their office with NO assistance). I never got any response. This is a terribly mismanaged and unprofessional institution that I highly recommend avoiding at all costs.

I definitely would not recommend. Their online banking only works 50% of the time! It literally took approximately two hours to sign up for an account!
