The banking services are good, rates area good, fees are usually low, and the staff is friendly and helpful, for the most part. The main problem I have with SCU is with loans. First, the amount that goes to principle and the amount that goes to interest fluctuate up and down dramatically each month rather than being on fixed, gradual progression as I have been used to with other banking institutions. Second, they give you a nice coupon book to use with your payment each month, but they don't send you a new one for the second year without your having to request a new one. The teller inside the main branch offered to set my account to receive new coupon books in the future, but indicated that that was not the default setting. Then, they also change the monthly payment amount without warning. No letter, no new coupon book with the new amount, nothing. So, when you continue paying the old amount while waiting on your new coupon book to arrive (after requesting it, since it isn't automatically sent to you) the tellers will not point out that you made out your check for the wrong amount. In my case the payment increased by less than a dollar, $0.51, but I didn't realize that my payment was incomplete until I noticed that those few cents had been drafted out of my main share account. I thought it was a processing fee for the new coupon book or something until it happened a second time and I was also slapped with a $55 late fee. Still, no word from the Credit Union as to why my monthly payment had gone up. Still, no question from the teller as to why my check was off by 51 cents so I could pay the extra amount in cash on the spot. Just a huge late fee! Borrower beware! UPDATE: Soon after the original review, the loan officer that I worked with over a year ago called me and I was able to go to talk to him in person the following day. By that time the late fee had been refunded, which was very quick work. I have to praise Mike Miller for his diligence, humanity, and attention to detail. He worked with me through the issues raised above and either explained the processes involved or assured me that the problems I had encountered were being addressed at higher levels referencing a number of meetings between several individuals. Mike also invited me to contact him concerning any issues that come up with the Credit Union, loan related or otherwise. I cannot express what a good experience it is not only to be treated as a valued customer/member, but also as a person, on a personal level. Sure, there are problems everywhere, but THIS is the way to work with people!

This is the worst financial institution I've ever seen. Can't wire money unless you're physically there, can't raise a limit without 30 min of red tape. They ask questions about small amounts of funds that is none of their business. Worst service of any bank I've ever been with. Go local to a real bank. This one is pathetic. They've lost my business

Debit Card was once again hacked and was told that because of excessive ordering of cards I can’t order another one! Like it’s my fault for the poor security you put on these cards! I will be withdrawing my funds from both accounts as of today!!!

    Response from the owner

It is unfortunate the credit union can no longer issue a debit card on your account. Members have a responsibility to maintain physical control over their debit card. Excessive lost, stolen, and fraudulent activity on multiple debit card re-issues results in a revocation of debit card privileges.

This 'establishment' is a JOKE! My son has his truck financed through this farce of a business. The women in collections has lied to us relentlessly; they have no system of organization nor a clue as to what they are doing! They cannot remember the lies that have told from one month to the next . Our son paid a fee at his bank to cease ALL auto drafts from them, they were contacted immediately of this and needless to say; they auto drafted the very next months payment only to land our son back in a negative account once again. They had to reimburse my son with a check which took almost weeks to even post! Lo and behold, after this drama, they did the very same auto draft the second month once again. This time we were advised that this auto draft would be reversed and if there were any fees involved they were solely liable for those fees. Not only have they jacked us around and around about why the reversal hasn't taken place in almost 3 weeks we are still in the negative once again because of them the second mistake after the first one you thought they might have gotten a clue. Now they are calling us liars saying that they never said that they were going to reverse anything which I have it recorded as does my son. Now I am having to pay their overdraft mistake because they tried to auto draft once again. I am sick to death of these people and their blatant lies. Stay clear of these people and this so-called organization. They have no organization, no morals, no order, and no intention of doing one stinking thing they say they are going to do. You may as well put your money out the window running 60 mile an hour down Interstate 75 and it will be in better hands. Stay clear, stay clear, stay clear. I am reporting them to the FTC, Better Business Bureau, and whomever else I can find to prosecute them immediately. I will not sit back and pay for their mistakes another minute. It is a low down crying shame that it doesn't take them but a hot second to snatch money that isn't in the bank (and they knew it wasn't), but puts the customer off because they have their money, so to heck with the customer! They never intended to do one thing from the jump street! It is funny how they tell you there is a 10 day grace period from when your payment is due, yet they start snatching money on the very FIRST day the payment is due from a bank which they know is no longer accepting auto draft payments! Down right disgusting!

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment in Southeastern Credit Union. Our Mission Statement says, “We want to be the best credit union members have ever experienced and for whom employees have ever worked”. As you might imagine, this is a lofty goal, but one we direct ourselves to each and every day. Collection of past due loans is one of the more challenging processes we manage. Past due loans are first collected by the loan officer, however, loans that move further into delinquency are then assigned to our Collections area. Our borrowing members in this position generally face financial difficulty and we make every effort to work out a repayment plan that fits their situation. There are limitations to how liberal the plan can be, so it must be satisfactory to both the credit union and the member. Our collections area follows all state and federal laws regarding the collection of a delinquent debt. Most of the time these matters are resolved amicably, but there are times, when a member does not communicate or work out a plan. In these cases, the collections area has no other option but to use all legal means under the laws of the state of Georgia, to collect the debt. Southeastern Credit Union

Been with them for over 5 years. Problem. After problem. After problem. Finally had my final straw today trying to book an emergency trip due to death in the family, wont let me. I can not even book my trip until mid day monday because I have to wait until they are open to approve the ticket purchase on my card. They have no after hours call center. If you have a problem better hope its not a holiday, bad weather, or weekend. Because you will be stuck without any money until they open.

Been banking with this CU since moving to Val 10 years ago. Had a loan and checking and savings. Excellent credit, always make payments on time. I get ready to conquer a mortgage/construction loan. Loan officer was very helpful. They told me I can use whichever builder I'd like and that they had done business with the builder I chose before. They suggested I use a builder that had an account with them so we would only have one loan making things much easier for me and them, plus saving a little money. After checking the reviews for their recommended builder they were bad. I got a bad supplier review, a bad lender review, and a bad consumer review. I decided to stick with my original builder which the loan officer assured me was fine. I finally let them pull my credit, which I don't do until I am sure we will be moving forward, then they drew up all the disclosures and we signed. After two hours of signing documents, he came back to give me a copy. He said that he would process through his "people" upstairs and move forward. The loan officer's personality is very arrogant and he does not conduct himself professionally. However, I'm accustomed to working with @$$%0!#$, so it didn't bother me too much. After a few days he calls me with contingencies which were not previously discussed during the disclosure agreements. OK, fine, I agree to the contingencies. The next day he calls trying to bully me out of using my builder. I thought it was very odd and irritated me. I had already researched my builder - they had good lending and consumer reviews. He then shared with me that it was a supplier issue. What he didn't know is that when I first started talking to my builder, they told me all of their suppliers. When I contacted the suppliers, they reassured me that they had never had an issue with the builder and in fact was quite the opposite of the picture SCU's loan officer had painted. When confronted with my research, the loan officer basically told me to find another builder or another lender. Of course it was an easy choice. However, they cost me a lot of time and points on my credit score. Be cautious of this lender. They don't have an approved/unapproved contractor list as part of their lending procedures on construction loans yet they denied me the right to use whatever builder I choose. Then gave me an ultimatum! I'm currently using another lender and the building process is underway. Thanks SCU for directing me to use another lender. It was a quick, painless and professional process.

We apologize and are disappointed you didn’t have an outstanding experience at our credit union. As you indicated you were a member in great standing and one we are sorry to see leave. Your mortgage professional is relatively new to the role, but no excuses from us as we expect all credit union staff to be professional, knowledgeable and courteous. We have a very strong commercial lending team, and when asked to check out the builder as we do on all residential and commercial construction, unfortunately, delinquency with suppliers was a present and existing issue. To protect our members, we always advise a builder credit review, but admittedly many mortgage lenders have long since forgotten or dropped the process. The credit union approved your construction and permanent mortgage loan quickly and without incident. It’s unfortunate we had to decline the builder of choice due to credit issues. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Ok so I might have been wrong, maybe it was just a rough start. Very friendly this afternoon I like it, that's how bankers and banks should be friendly to their clients. Anyway I liked how the service was today keep it up guys good bank here, Although the phone service speed could be just a little bit quicker of an answer but overall very good bank.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the 2nd known time the Online Banking Server has went down. I know technical matters can happen and are beyond control. However, are there plans to have a Backup Server in place once you are alarmed that the main Server is down to include weekends/Holidays? Technology has spoiled me and I do depend on Online Banking to pay bills and etc. When I called the credit union this morning at 9:05 A.M., I was number 30 in line to talk to a representative. Instead of being on hold that long, recommend an automated voice tell the caller upfront that you (CU) are experiencing trouble(s) with Online Banking System and the system is being worked on and etc.. The caller at least will know that its nothing wrong with their PC and would probably hangup if that was their only concern. This would minimize customer hold times and free up an employee(s) from answering that many calls (Time Management). Thanking you in advance.
