    What started as an ideal process ended up being a complete nightmare. We started our home buying journey at the end of April, sent the necessary documentation to Randy’s team and were pre-qualified on May 1st. From the pre-qualification to the initial underwriting approval everything went smoothly and we were confident that we had chosen a good team. Then 2 things happened: 1. Randy brought to the party the most incompetent mortgage lender: Sprout Mortgage. 2. Price Mortgage locked us in a rate that was higher because of our home being a “Condo” and we found out that this information was not accurate and our rate should have been lower since the home we were buying was actually a “townhome”. The remainder of the process was a painful back and forth with Randy (who by the way really likes to mansplain and doesn’t hold himself accountable), we were not given accurate information regarding the closing costs (Price mortgage first estimate was $4,800 and it ended up being $7,200). Despite being on top of it and providing all requested documents at the beginning of the process, Randy’s team kept asking us for last minute documentation and requesting the documents last minute when both my partner and I were working (Cancelled check, rent payment…). The underwriter asked us twice for a verification of employment. Randy asked me to translate my previous proof of employment that was in a different language and I paid about $200 to have the documentation expedited just to hear him say that at the end of the day the lender didn’t need the documentation. These are just a few examples of the poor communication and lack of transparency but the worst part of the process is that due to our mortgage broker and mortgage lender’s incompetence, we almost lost the house that we were dreaming of. We had to file 4 addendums to push the closing date because they couldn’t do their job in a timely manner (original closing date was June 5th and we weren’t able to close before June 24th). If the sellers would have cured us we wouldn’t have been able to close the loan on time. Our real estate agent even had to get involved in the lending process to hold Price Mortgage and Sprout Mortgage accountable. Additionally, tired of getting the runaround, we had to physically drive down to Randy’s office for him to reach out the Sprout Mortgage and speed things up. Towards the end of the process we found out that our rate was actually for a condo and that Price Mortgage had misclassified it and locked the rate higher than it should have been. Randy was dishonest from the beginning of the process and assured us that Price Mortgage did “their homework” and assured us 100% that it was a condo. Of course, we had no way to turn back at that point. Due to that mistake, we are currently paying $35 more a month that we should be and the only solution offered by Randy was to refinance in 6 months, and of course by paying another $2500 at the very least for it. I cannot help but wonder if the “mistake” on the rate was actually intentional to solidify more business for Randy/Price Mortgage in the future. We communicated to Randy that if we were going to go that route the process would not involve him or Price Mortgage, but he is being overly pushy. Not to add that we asked him to remove us from any form of emailing or communication from Price mortgage and we are still receiving automated emails and text messages advertising their services. Lastly, to make up for the painful process, Randy assured us that we would receive a gift card as an effort to make things right, we are still waiting for it. We feel cheated, and we were definitely not respected during this process. Please do not deal with Randy Bongard nor Price Mortgage if you are in the process of buying a home or refinancing. Unless you like nightmares.
