One star for the bank that unsurprisingly has only a 3 star rating on Google. When calling the bank, I was prompted with an automated service that gave options for different reasons of calling. Not one of those options included hours or location. If you’re going to have an automated service, at least allow it to give information. Instead I was left with more questions than answers. When we tried different options, we were always sent to the operator. This went to voicemail during regular business hours. Your phone system should transfer person to person until the caller reaches someone available. Instead it stopped at the operator. More transfers to the operator after this, and our call was dropped over and over with a message “your request cannot be completed.” Your automated service clearly needs maintenance. Is it worth having an automated service versus giving someone a job as the receptionist? I can promise that someone would be grateful for that job. Again, we were left with more questions than answers and our issue is still not resolved.

Female loan officer all but ran me out of her office before looking at a single document. She immediately said I didn’t qualify although my income is double that of most of the customers at this bank. Rude, demeaning, and would not recommend. Terrible embarrassing experience. Staff should be reprimanded for their actions.

I love this bank! Crystal Wallace is so helpful and goes above and beyond. I opened a business account with Cody Rogers who is also very helpful and always goes above and beyond to help. When my checks never came Crystal got on the phone with the company found out why and followed the progress until she had them in hand for me to come and pick them up straight from her!! I was so worried but she kept me informed and updated every few days! I couldn’t have asked for better service!!!

Zeta, Cody and everyone else here are super amazing. They are extremely friendly and helpful. Everytime I have questions, or help, they are always there. If going to a credit union, I highly recommend this one.

This little bank is the best. Anytime I need something or have a question all I have to do is call. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Cody Rodgers is my go to guy. He is the best.

Avoid this Credit Union like the plague! Like many people who've grown disgusted with traditional banks, I decided to switch to my local Credit Union, in this case, Mountain Credit Union. Boy was that a mistake. I have never encountered a more inept, poorly run, Mickey Mouse financial institution in my life. First and foremost, they have no way to verify and/or instantly exchange funds electronically with other financial institutions like traditional banks do. Their solution to this crippling deficiency is to just arbitrarily decide when to credit your account with a deposit that contains a check, and when they want to put a "hold" on the check. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to when they decide to sit on your money for 7-10 business days. They randomly do it with in-state checks, checks in the exact same amount, written by the exact same people, that they have promptly credited your account with before. Since they lack the ability to verify and/or electronically transfer funds to and from regular banks, one can only assume that they're using a Magic 8 Ball to decide when you can actually access your deposit? Of course if you are counting on using the funds you deposited before the next ice age sets in, they wreak total havoc on your own bill paying ability by not having anything that even remotely resembles a consistent policy on deposits. Their "on-line banking" is even worse. It can take up to a week for the bill you paid on-line to be received by the payee, even if it is an "instant pay" system like Duke Energy's, Direct TV's, etc. Apparently since Mountain Credit Union does not have a "relationship" with other banks or utilities... Duke Energy, Frontier, Direct TV etc. they wait until they have a large sack of payments from their on-line Banking site, put it on the back of a donkey, stroll it across the mountains while allowing the donkey to graze occasionally, then eventually tie your payment to a rock and throw it on the payee's doorstep as they amble on by. While the idea of not supporting the "Big Banks" is nice, having a Credit Union randomly sit on both payments and deposits for weeks is completely unacceptable. It's no wonder the big banks are thriving if all credit unions are as archaic, inconsistent, and bovine slow as Mountain Credit Union. Don't make the mistake of opening an account with them...you'd be better off buying your own donkey.

My husband and myself was denied service and was deemed not eligible for an account when the lady said all we needed was a Utility Bill or a NC Drivers License. After showing an internet bill she said this wasn't proof of residence. I gave my NC drivers license and was still denied because my address wasn't current. Proper training and education seems necessary before declaring who is and who is not eligible. We went to Cherokee and got our account instead, with no problems at all. Poor service at the Sylva Mountain Credit Union.

The group at the Sylva Branch are the friendliest and most helpful group that we have encountered. They treat you like family and they are very efficient and knowledgeable. I love it that when we walk in they know us by name. Such personalized service.

I would give it less stars if I could. We have had money go missing from our accounts, and every other month my debit card is reported lost even though I myself have never reported it. So when my check deposits I can't even get to my fund without going to the bank
