I was going to open an account there, but after walking in and seeing 2 different male tellers trying to pawn me off on one another, I simply turned and left. No one there looked happy, even other banking clients looked aggravated. The feeling you get when you walk in is NOT welcoming.

    Response from the owner

Hi LMK, Thank you for taking the time to reach out. I'm so sorry that we didn't live up to your expectations and will work on improving! Your experience has been shared with management. -Rebecca

I tried 5x to get ahold of Bank of America today to get assistance on an issue; never got any help. I called MIDFLORIDA Credit Union and they were a tremendous help and extremely friendly. Thanks Theron Simpson for your help. Hopefully MIDFLORIDA will move down into Sarasota soon!

    Response from the owner

Here’s my experience with this St.Petersburg 4th Street branch. The first point of contact, Dixie, ruined me joining, and possibly put a ding on my credit for no reason. I thought a credit union would treat a customer better than a bank, and would be a bit more knowledgeable, after speaking with my financial advisor. Instead, after consulting with my financial advisor following visiting this branch, the account options this person recommended to me were nowhere near what would fit my needs. My credit was pulled. It was with my consent. Yet, my credit was polled before telling me that I needed to bring in an SS-4 for my business from IRS. I had no knowledge that I was supposed to bring any documentation in. I was alarmed when she said that my accountant “should“ have this form. I filed this document in 2016, Although my accountant does know my EIIN number, I am the one that has the paperwork. On the paperwork, it tells me which portion I need to retain for my records. This Dixie representative then made it more difficult, telling me that I had to have the front page of this document. I guess she knows more than the IRS. Then she said to me that I, “should“ know the exact number of what my old and new mortgage payments were. I had just completed refinancing my home the week prior, not even making a new mortgage payment yet. I am so sorry I did not remember the exact number for her. This is paperwork that “should” have been disclosed to me that I needed to have it before opening an account— again, before pulling my credit. This was just unacceptable. I then called to make an extensive complaint about all of this. An extensive complaint was then made to the manager Brian the next day—who apparently also likes to treat customers poorly and gaslight them, making sure to point out more than once that I had consented for my credit to be polled. What I received was this manager defending his employee when I was extremely upset that my credit was pulled before I was told what documentation would be needed to open an account. I made this complaint in the hopes that something would be done to change their procedures, and the condescending treatment towards a potential customer by this Dixie individual. I don’t know if my complaint will be followed through with, given the response from this manager. It would be nice if a complaint was paid more attention to—instead of defending an employee who, “should” all over a potential customer. There’s no need for this branch to respond to this review with any insincere apologies, or any mention on how we try our best o treat our customers well—as I now have read from responses to other customer’s unfavorable reviews here. I personally already have more than this credit union’s number. If anyone reading this decides to try to join this credit union, please make sure that you first consult with a financial advisor and possibly your accountant before thinking about joining here so you are educated as this credit union “should” be.

Recently opened and account because I was going to switch from Chase then I spoke with Theon which immediately tried to sell me a credit card that I could use for balance transfer. Keep in mind my credit is good over 700 and have never missed a credit card or car payment, good enough to buy a $60k Alfa Romeo on 9/1/21. So I asked in great detail what I would need to qualify for this card, explaining my credit and current job because I didn’t want a hard inquiry on my credit report. I work for my family business and I am paid through Zelle from the business account, it’s a new business about 1 year so we are still working out the logistics. He said that shouldn’t matter since my credit is good. So He pulled my credit and he gets back to me asking for a w2 in which he knew I wouldn’t have, last years worthless because I explained I was bartending at the time and obviously with Covid it was the worst year ever and not even employed with that job anymore. He then said he can’t approve me and asked me if I wanted to pull the application, like really? The saga continues when I tell him I no longer want this account or anything to do with that bank and therron could not give me details on how to close the account online. I even asked Theon how much the minimum balance needed to keep the account open without a monthly fee and he didn’t know and would have to call me back. Unbelievable. This is how knowledgeable Theron is about credit and banking: I had a charge off from a bank credit card from over 8 years ago for $158 for a charge I didn’t make which I disputed (an online purchase in another state) and he actually told me I should pay that. Pay who Theon? The bank? They sold it to collectors long ago so the money wouldn’t go to them, they wrote it off. It’s already off my credit and if I tried track someone down to pay it, guess what? It would remain there. This bank doesn’t even have modern features like Zelle. Ask yourself what you are gaining before choosing this bank versus another.

I am a member of another credit union that is not in town and needed to make a deposit. I have often taken advantage of the shared branch benefit of credit union membership to accomplish what I need while out of town. Of the dozen or so shared branch transactions I've done at various credit unions, MidFlorida Credit Union on 4th St is the only one that made it unnecessarily difficult to complete, insisting on an account or member number when other CU's have been able to search this by drivers license or social security info.

    Response from the owner

Hi Jess, Thank you for taking the time to reach out. We take fraud prevention very seriously. One of the ways that we protect guest members is by only accessing their accounts via member or account number. While I understand this may cause an inconvenience, it is done to help protect guest members from potential loss. -Rebecca

Having lived in the area for over 20 years, I have held accounts at several different banking institutions over the years and I can say hands down, that Midflorida Credit Union is far superior to them in every way. They offer the very same services as the others but they do it with the customer’s needs in mind first rather than the institution’s needs first - as the others so obviously did/do. At Midflorida you are made to feel as though your business is important to them; that your questions and any issues that arise with your accounts, truly matters. Suffice to say, their customer service and business practices are excellent, personable and professional. Don’t take my word for it. Go and see for yourself!
