I had a negative experience with MAFCU's customer service. I needed a copy of my car loan release so that I could transfer the title. Unfortunately this is not a document that the union makes available on line in my account. They offered to mail it to me on the same day that I requested it from customer service on July 3. They told me that it would go into the mail that same day. I was surprised that they were unwilling to email or fax it to me on the day that I requested it. As of this morning, 7/10, I still have not received it and I had to call customer service again. As a "special favor," they will make the document available to me later today at one of the branch offices. This is not what I would call putting the member first and getting the job done expeditiously. I will not turn to MAFCU in the future if I need another car loan.

I would not recommend this credit Union to my worst enemies they have the worst customer service. My card was used fraudulently and I have yet to hear anything from them about getting me a new card 7 to 10 business days is ridiculous where in a pandemic at least distribute a temporary card.

Jaspreet helped me get an auto loan and she was amazing. Not only was she helpful but she was patient. Thank you Jaspreet! edit: have to lower my stars a bit. I found a car that I liked through a dealer so I decided to come to the bank to ask them what my rate would be before purchasing the vehicle. The teller told me it would take about an hour. 3 hours later I get a call saying that she would submit my request to the loan department to then be told it could take up to a day. I took today off work to purchase my new vehicle and now I have to wait until Wednesday (my next day off because I can’t take tomorrow off) to hopefully purchase this car. Not sure why they have to wait for the loan department to tell me what my rate is. And if you’re going to do that, you might as well just submit it right then and there instead of wasting my time. I’m super frustrated.

I drove all the way to Germantown to use the drive thru because Gaithersburg doesn't have one anymore and the teller accused me of forging my check and wouldn't accept it. I wouldn't be sad if this credit union went out of business. Everything interaction with them sucks. If you're thinking of banking with them - don't! Save a lot of time and heartburn.

I lost my bank card from a credit union in South Florida. Mid-Atlantic was recommended as a place to go to while I waited for my replacement card. The employees were very helpful and friendly. I feel fortunate to have had such a good experience.

We have been MAFCU members for 30 years, since the days when they were IBM FCU. They have had their ups and downs but we stayed with them because they were the best deal in town for banking. Besides, over time our banking needs got deep. We have several accounts with them and I actually remember many of the account numbers by memory. But we have had some weird issues with them. For example, one of our debit/ATM cards draws money from an entirely separate account with a separate account number. When I took the problem to them, the rep in one of the glass-window offices thought I was not very bright for suggesting that such a thing could happen. The problem never got resolved and we just learned to live with it. The people who work there are pretty good for the most part. (The one star goes to the people who work there.) But their management has made some strange decisions. The last straw was when then "upgraded" their bill pay system in April/May 2017. They advertised it for months as a new and improved system. When they rolled it out, it was a disaster. The bill pay system is decidedly 100% worse than what they had before, which was working fine. The user interface got worse and extremely cumbersome, the bill presentation and payments system became less accurate and it would not sync with Mint, the online accounting system. When I opened tickets with them, they came back with a pretty sternly worded email saying that they had no plans of making any changes to have their accounts sync with Mint. Luckily, we have an option. We are in the process of transferring most of our accounts to NIH FCU. Sad to see such a potentially promising institution deteriorate due to poor management decisions and incompetence.

Their ATMs machines have a mind of their own. They often arbitrarily won't take deposits for some reason and the coin machine is almost always broken. Their tellers won't take your coins, even if the coin machine is broken. I can understand not taking them if they've got a working machine, but you'd think they'd take them if the machine ain't working, which is the case most of the time.

My husband deposited his GI Bill checks into an account at MAFCU. He has been told for 2 weeks now that there is a security hold on his account and he cannot withdraw any funds or close his account. The bank could not explain the security hold and told my husband it may remain on his account for another 30 days. As a result, this is creating a financial hardship for a hard working veteran. Shame on you MAFCU. He has spent hours at the credit union these past few weeks and has gotten the run around. Terrible customer service. As soon as MAFCU removes the security hold we will be closing all accounts here and never, EVER returning.

I'm not happy as there is no zero star available for this Credit Union. I'm an immigrant. I feed my family from a car service business and struggling to provide my children hope. My car was involved in an accident and I requested for loan extension since my income was disconnected due to the accident. They didn't bother to give me a response up until the time I came back to the Silver Spring branch to discuss on starting the repayment. They said I need to pay the "past due" amount first before we continue discussing about it. How do they expect me to pay the past due amount before I go back to work with my business car? I wish I didn't ask them about the repayment plan. I wanted to put my house in order before I go back to my business and they persecute me in any possible way they could. - We started a new cafe at Silver Spring and they denied us acces not to withdraw any amount from it. - they keep on taking money from our business account without notifying us and any amount they want - I took an appointment to discuss the issue with a sfaff at Germantown who was not in her office by the time I was there and she denied it now. - I wrote email for more than three times and no response so far - my account is current but they still demand to repossess the car for the document they claim I didn't sign while the loan was initiated in Jan 2015 - they didn't want to give me a chance to review the retroactive document with my family and the lawyer before I signed it -they call on each and every body on my contact list to bother them the where about of my car excusing l'm involved in an accident and if anybody knows where my car is. Don't you think the easiest thing is to ask me rather than others? What kind of professionalism is this and how they come against the accounts of a weak person who is struggling to feed his five kids from the car business and the new cafe? Where is God and where is my legal protection in this great country of law and justice? I really am desperate....

MAFCU has been my only bank since 1982, and they've been wonderful!! I've never had a bad experience with this bank. Highly recommend!
