Reading through the reviews I am not sure what others say about getting charged fee after fee. Members First is the only bank I have ever banked with within the last 23 years and I have never been charged any type of fee except 1 time. That was when I did 1 too many transfer from my savings account to my checking account years ago. They were kind enough to give me the fee back because I only did it once. Other than that I am happy with Members First being my bank, I have since moved to South Carolina and I kept them as my bank. They make the shared branching very easy to use since there is a credit union down the road from my house to deposit any thing I need. I have had car loans through them without any pre approval problems and anytime I call in regards to my account they always give me the answers I am looking for. As long as you follow the guidelines for no fees for your checking account there shouldn’t be any problems. I always use my debit for purchases and I do all my online banking through Members First as well as direct deposit. With those 3 things added up I have never been charged a fee. It’s my primary bank and it’s going to stay my primary bank even living in South Carolina.

    Response from the owner

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Robert! We're so glad you can count on Members First for your auto loans and we appreciate you sharing your positive perspective on fees. We're thrilled that you've stayed with us all these years and that you're taking advantage of the shared branch network now that you're living in South Carolina. I don't blame you one bit for migrating away from our Northeast winters!

Good rates, and a fairly painless process for Home Equity products. Amanda L was easy to work with and more than accommodating. Christine W was very responsive and informative when we needed details, a wonderful job. The communication the bank uses is a secured portal requiring you to log in every time you send an email, which can become quite cumbersome after the 4th or 5th email. Once you get the password's saved in your browser it isn't such an issue, but would certainly recommend the bank finds a more efficient solution going forward. We would have left 6 stars if it weren’t for the less than welcoming greeting we received from the teller at the door when we arrived today, but I'm sure she was just having a bad day. Certainly recommend this bank for all home equity needs.

    Response from the owner

Thank you, Joshua, for your honest and candid feedback and for recommending Members First for home equity financing. We're so glad to hear about your positive experience with our mortgage lending team and will strive to exceed your expectations the next time you visit.

Let me first just say that I've been a member here since my mama was a city Teacher in Manchester and opened my first bank account for me. This was when deposits and withdrawls were printed in a card book with a dot matrix printer and this bank was known as "Manchester Municipal Employees Credit Union" and actually only served Manchester Municipal Employees. I'm middle aged now with kids of my own and my money is still with them, so gosh, I'd say membership for at least 30-35 years to say the least. Members First "Used" to be an amazing Credit Union! They wrote me my first loan to buy a jetski when I was a teenager, and my first car, but that's about it. Every new vehicle I've purchased since 2002, I've inquired about Member's First's rates, but ended up signing with either dealer financing or a nearby credit union with a much cheaper rate. When it was time to buy my first condo, Members First (They switched names when I was in High School) wasn't able to help me, I was too young. Ten years later when I wanted to build my first house, Members First couldn't help me with a land loan, they told me to go to St Mary's. When it was time to get a construction loan, they couldn't help me, since they don't do jumbo mortgages, they told me to go to Merrimack County. When I travel across country and beyond, heck even in NH, do not use your Members First ATM card, you will get charged significant fees! This past Friday, I needed to pay bills and their online banking was down for the majority of the day. This was the breaking point for me! I've had enough! I'm a Software Engineer, and if a bank's system is down for the majority of the day, that is something very bad that should never happen, especially when most of your banking today is online! I just sold Real Estate and it took nearly 2 weeks to clear a bank check coming from a Title Company! I've got near perfect ~800+ credit and I have 5 other checking accounts from different banks where Members First couldn't help me. I've got Bank of America for my business. And as of today, I will be switching to them for Personal as well, even though the Bedford Members First is walking distance from my house! I'm tired of the fees and the inconvienience to access my money, their uncompetitive rates, their inability to help me with every major purchase in my life to date, and their lousy online banking system. So long Members First, I'm leaving, along with several other people I know who feel the same way about this credit union, I mean bank!

It is sad to say that after years of being with this bank that they still have their lobbies closed is beyond me. I guess waiting in a line of cars breathing in exhaust is more safe then standing in a lobby. The nonsense has to end. I am actively switching my bank today. Mobile deposit was a great feature till my checks were over 1500. Good buy members first plenty of other credit unions and or other banks with there lobbies open that will get my business

    Response from the owner

Member for over 20+ years and will never change. I have had 7 car loans with them and each time they have had the lowest loan rates anywhere. Customer service is top notch and they are always willing to help out with any circumstance. I recommend Members First over any other.

    Response from the owner

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Tim! It makes me and everyone here at Members First so happy to hear you’re pleased with our low car rates and customer service. We truly appreciate your recommendations! Let us know what else we can do any time.

Seems great when they get you to switch from your current credit union. One thing happens by mistake during the switch and they charge fee after fee and refuse to give them back. I was actually told 'well it wasn't our fault!' The best part of that is that it wasn't my fault either, finally they took off two fees. So my welcome to the credit union gift was having to pay about $300 in fees. Now I have to go though the process of switching again, this time to a credit union that doesn't only care about money and actually tries and help the customers/share holders. EDIT: They reached out to me and refunded the remainder of my fees. I really greatly appreciate that. 2nd EDIT: Literally the next day someone tried to take an UNAUTHORIZED payment and they charged me ANOTHER fee. I went into the branch and was told tough luck, we REALLY want that $35.00. I was genuinely touched that they reached out and thought I would give them another chance. NOT ANYMORE, I'll pay them just to get away from them. BEWARE!!!!!

My husband and I were hoping this was the bank we'd switch to that would finally have our backs and be able to finance our future assets and investments... We were so excited to get an auto loan and then a mortgage through MFCU after hearing good things. We've been with the bank for about a year and can not WAIT for Monday to come so we can close all our accounts! RUN!!!! They charge fee after fee, which we pay - except for the unsubstantiated ones. Don't ever feel bullied into being forced to pay "courtesy" fees when the bank provides zero courtesy for what they yank out of your account for no reason that anyone can explain in a way that makes any sense. Still looking to find that "local credit union" that cares about their customers and isn't out to just charge ridiculous fees on a $3 charge from a different day, because you "could have overdrafted by the end of today." When you NEVER overdrafted at all. WHAT! Never thought we'd see the day, but somehow, we miss Bank of America. Thank you, next.

Got a secured loan in 2013, no problems. In 2017 I opened a checking account and transferred all of my banking to Members First. After a week or so I was called and told that my checking account was closed and that they made a mistake and could not offer me a checking. Although upset, I kept my savings account but did not use it (as I once again had to transfer my accounts, bill pay, direct deposit, etc. back to another bank). Today I go into Members First and am told that I have been getting hit with fees for not using my savings account. I closed out my account and will do no future business with this establishment.

"Members First?" How about their shareholders 1st. Lots of fees and allowance of 3rd parties to charge multiple times for contracts already null and voided. Lost over $700 on a $16 charge. Doesn't make sense. Borderline extortionate. And when a Member gripes their side of story, some teller gets PD to trespass warrant me? "Can't do anything to help. It's out of our hands." No. My money was very much IN YOUR hands. Keep the seven 100s. Y'all lost out on thousands in interest. I will take my mortgage business elsewhere. They have cute fake smiles and know you by name. Earn a 2nd star for that. Yeah, 2nd class.

If you want a place that gives you fees this is the one. I'm giving this place thousands of dollars and to be treated the way I have by them is uncalled for. Especially with all that's going on you'd think they'd be a little more understanding. Expect to be treated like garbage. They'll tell you what you want to hear and leave out important details. If you go with members first say goodbye to your money and patience.
