The atm machines at the MLK Blvd are always broke, they have two but 99% of the time only one is working, i use this site because i worked downtown. When you go into the branch on Northern Parkway, no one smiles. Everyone looks like they don't want to be there. The atm is broke so you go in to withdraw and 1 out of 4 pens has ink! While standing in line the lady in front of me had to say good morning twice before the teller responded. I gave my teller my withdrawal slip, and not realizing i had not given her my license i was just standing there. Instead of her saying I need your id Ms she just looked at me and said "whenever your ready". Left a bank and joined Mecu. Got to do better. I can always switch again......
Hi Carol, thank you for the feedback. We have shared your comments with our branch leadership team.

I been a customer for many many year and I have Never receive bad customer service, I love the fact it seem like you trying to get in Fort Knot when inquiring about your account, they extra needed information is a good thing to me, let me know if someone is trying to steal my information they better know ALL things about me otherwise MECU will not entertaining you (thank you for that). I have tried to get a debt consolation loan but, was unable to because of my credit (that's why i wanted the loan to pay off debt) I was denied but, they do allow me to get the Christmas loan and this year will be my 3rd time receiving it (Thank You MECU). MECU staff can kinda reflection on them as a whole when giving poor customer service but address it with a manager then not when you get home and go online to bash them online, address it there with a manager. I once had MECU and SECU account and gave SECU up because they are not loyal to their customer like MECU.

Please do not use MECU for your banking needs. I should have walked out the door when I first tried opening an account and they tried to tell me I don’t live in the city of Baltimore, even though both the Maryland MVA and US Post Office say I do. They grudgingly allowed me the honor of opening an account since I also work in Baltimore. If you need quarters for one of the many local laundromats, don’t bother with MECU. According to their employees they don’t exchange money for non-customers, or will claim to not have any rolls of quarters. They also don’t exchange money for MECU customers, claiming to not have any rolls of quarters, or any quarters at all. According to MECU it is fine and acceptable for them to surreptitiously re-order your transactions on a secret transaction record in an effort to induce insufficient funds and negative balance fees against your account. When the real transaction history and your statement shows that there was no real overdraw or negative balance you will have to then repeatedly demand they reverse any fees that were fraudulently charged. MECU will insist the fees are valid, even though all the evidence says otherwise. MECU has what they claim is a secure messaging service on their website, which requires you to be logged into your MECU account to use. However the secure messaging department will refuse to communicate with you about your account over their secure messaging service. The secure messaging department will also refuse to answer why there is the service if they refuse to use it as it is intended or supposed to be used. If you are traveling outside your home state MECU will randomly decide any transaction is possible fraud and turn off your card, even if you inform them ahead of time you will be traveling. They also will make ZERO effort to contact you to verify you still have your card or if the transactions are valid. After you call in to get your card turned back on, and have another note put on file that you are traveling, you will soon find your card deactivated again. When you call in, again, MECU will then tell you that no one actually reads the account notes on file. After calling in multiple days to get your card reactivated, MECU will tell you that even though you tell them the charges that keep happening in the same area in the same businesses are valid, what MECU considers suspicious activity changes daily and completely overrides what the rules were for the previous day. Plan on having to call in and jump through security hoops with multiple departments to have your card turned back on daily if you travel anywhere outside your home state. The ATMs at their banks very often are completely non-functional, or have a major malfunction-not being able to dispense or accept any cash for instance, most often not working before and during long weekends. If you have a fraudulent or unauthorized charge on your account MECU will initially refuse to investigate or do anything about it, and then eventually will take all the necessary information to investigate and reverse the charge. Then instead of investigating and reversing the fraudulent or unauthorized charge, or anything else useful, they will just close your account, waiting until after they’ve closed it to notify you the account is closed, then ignore and refuse to acknowledge any communication attempts from you to them. If you are a fan of constant and blatant incompetence, abuse, and ineptitude from a bank or credit union MECU is the perfect place for you.
Dear KM, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We noticed that you posted the same review on multiple MECU listings so we are posting our reply multiple times as well. It’s clear that you experienced a number of issues and we’re sorry that your experience fell short of our high standards. We are always listening to our members to find ways to improve and your feedback will be shared with MECU senior leadership. For privacy reasons, we can’t discuss your specific account, but we did want to address a few general items: • Membership eligibility – our field of membership is defined by the DLLR and the NCUA, our state and federal regulators. Currently, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Baltimore City can become a member. In addition, family members of existing members and employees of select Baltimore area employers are also eligible. If you don’t meet any of those conditions, you may also join the American Consumer Council to qualify. • Rolled coins – our rolled coin service is reserved for MECU members. We do provide rolled coins to members upon request, based on available supplies at the branch. • ATMs – we monitor our ATMs 24/7 and service technicians are dispatched to quickly repair equipment issues that affect ATM service. • Travel notices – we encourage all members to let us know when they are traveling out of the area so we may notate their account and reduce the likelihood of unnecessarily flagging a card for unusual activity. However, the travel alert is just one of many factors our fraud team uses in identifying unusual transaction activity. Our top priority is safeguarding and protecting our members’ accounts. • Account closure – closing accounts is a rare occurrence and we always attempt to first resolve the issue with the member. This includes multiple letters with details regarding what actions are required and key deadlines. If the required actions are not completed, we may take additional action per the terms of our membership agreement. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we hope you may consider giving us another chance to win back your trust in the future.

I have been trying to call them for a while now. Each call has been horrible. So much automation menus. Have been on hold on a few calls for over 45 min each and no one answered. This company isnt worth doing business with.

This is the worst credit union that I have ever been a member of they declined me for a loan because they said I had a charge off account that never happen I spoke with a representative that didn't even see where the loan officer got that wrong information they said I had a foreclosure I never owned a house. I have to call someone in the corporate office because clearly this loan officer is clueless.
Hi Betty, please give us a call at 410-752-8313 so we may assist you with your application. We apologize for any confusion. Thank you.

WORST BANK EVER. They have poor accounting, your car payments you are making often times will not credit to their system, and although your money left your other account to pay them and they did in fact receive it. It still vanishes into thin air, the payment is not applied to your car loan and then you get a late notice telling you to make another payment. Then they illegally repossess your vehicle without any notice and not only that, they apply bogus collateral protection insurance fees on it amounting in thousands to prevent you from paying off the vehicle so they can get more money out of you. Upon trying to reach a resolution with their supervisors and higher ups like Matt Scott the head of collections, he will yell at you over the phone, berate you and hang up. Most of the people there despite me being calm and respectful are incredibly rude and for no reason at all talk over you and interrupt you then hang up. It is like this bank is run by ghetto people with no education whatsoever. NEVER bank with them or get a loan from them. The moment your loan is nearly paid off they are going to assign bogus fees and try to get more money out of you.

I have only been to the Catonsville Rt 40 West location. Never in my life have I experienced the level of UNPROFESSIONALISM. In the drive thru teller Never says welcome to Mecu then handle yours transaction. Sometimes it's handle transaction & give me my receipt then the teller will thank me. That's just 1% of the time. The other 99% of the time the teller sends my receipt and that's it. No have a nice day, just nothing. New Management is definitely needed & a real training class for the tellers and make sure that it is enforced.
Hi Tonia, thank you for sharing your experience with us. Providing excellent member service is our highest priority and we’re sorry to hear that did not happen for you. We have shared your feedback with the branch manager and upper management as we continuously work to enhance the service experience for our members.

Called MECU and opted for the call back option. Someone called back 20 minutes later and transferred me to the mortgage department. After 5 minutes of letting the phone...ring, ring, ring with no answer...I hung up.
Good afternoon and thank you for reaching out to MECU. Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of your recent experience as this is not our standard. We have reached out to you to in hopes of placing you in contact with the appropriate representative.

I don't bank with them but I went in to withdraw money since they are part of my credit Unions co op. The teller was super helpful and got what I needed even though I didn't have all of the information I should have.
