Beware and save all emails and phone call record. My elderly mother was looking into refinancing her mortgage between Loan Depot and her current mortgage provider. 1st clue to go someplace else: The loan advisor asked her for her credit card info for the $12 processing fee, and within hours she gets a $500 charge. She asked her loan advisor what the charge was for, and the loan advisor said it was for the appraisal and they would remove the charge if she didn’t go with Loan Depot refinance. My mom decided to go with her current mortgage company because LoanDepot wanted her to take out a loan for $20k more than she needed and they couldn’t go lower. My mom then contacted the loan advisor via phone/text, and email to cancel the mortgage process, and then followed up regularly to get the $500 charge removed. She got a call two weeks ago from an appraisal company but they didn’t associate themselves with a mortgage company so she thought it was through her current mortgage company. Afterwards she finds out its was arranged through Loan Depot and they hadn’t cancelled they appraisal. Loan Depot told her it’s her fault because she didn’t say no to the appraisal company, and they would not give her her money back. My mom gave them plenty of time to cancel, and they would not respond to any form of communication leading up to the appraisal. She’s on a fixed income and can’t afford to throw away $500. Shame on you Loan Depot.
