After recently losing function in my kidneys & going on dialysis I was unable to work. I spoke with a Key Bank representative at their 800# to get advise on how to stay on budget. I was advised to put the bulk of my Social Security disability check each month into savings & transfer what I needed into checking as I needed it. This would help me to think about each purchase making it harder to just spend the money. It worked great until I started getting $15 per transfer fee. In total, just for March they have assessed me $120. They agreed to refund 3 but with no income other than disability my account is now depleted thanks to this advise. I was NEVER told there was a limit of 6 without fees which I feel is a very important piece to include in their advise & should have been disclosed. I was refunded 3 fees. This may not seem important, but to me it's everything & taking advantage of me after I disclosed my situation is just wrong.

I’ve had key bank 9 years , and just this past week I had the worst interaction ever with the branch manager , and a banker. How do people get this rotten. I had a wire transfer to do. The money was in my account , and I had all of my banking info , and my identification. I closed my acount at another branch and gave all the names of the people that chased me out of the bank to the other branch manager. Don’t waste your time here people ( these ladies are ignorant ) there is too many good banks that want your buisness. Ent is a far better Institution , and nice people work there.terry was the manager working at the time by the way. She’s a cold hearted snake.

My husband and I sold our house and had a very big check issued from key Bank that we wanted to use to open an account. My husband interacted with the branch manager Terry. She was very rude and made us feel unwelcome from the start. She refused to help us claiming we didn't have a proper 2nd form of ID. What I couldn't figure out is why she refused to work with us when we had over $20,000 we were trying to put into her bank!!! Terrible!

    Response from the owner

Hello Kesandra: I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience at the branch and thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, it is appreciated. I have forwarded this information to our Branch Experience Team for them to review. ^KeyBank Customer Care

I came in to change my address and was talked into opening my own checking account outside of my husbands account to have direct deposit go into. Without notification and after calling my employers payroll services to have everything switched over, they CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT WITHOUT CONTACTING ME. My pay check was deposited into an account that was cancelled and they couldn't 'find' my money or transfer it into my old account for 5 days. This branch is extremely unorganized. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. Spend the time and go to another branch or bank for your needs.

Stay away from KeyBank. I have been constantly robbed from them, and their customer service is terrible. I literally just got told to F word off when i wanted them to explain why several hundred dollars just vanished from my account without reason. I have never been so disgusted with a banking service in my life and I will be changing banks today.

I walked in with a $3.50 stock dividend check. Gave them my drivers license, she/turtle lady, said she couldn't find my account. I was just wanting to cash the check & get quarters for the car wash. She pushed two $1 bills over the counter & said we needed to get a manager...I agreed and asked why she was ripping me off for $1.50? She handed me another $1.50....I told her I wanted quarters, "What was HER problem?" She got nastier....? I avoid this branch.

Branch manager Terry is probably the worst customer service experience I've ever had in my life, looking at other reviews on here looks like some people would agree with me. I went into this branch in mid June to close my acct because I was moving to TX, here it is mid August and my acct is still open and occuring fees, Terry no longer responds to my emails or phone calls, opened the acct in 5 mins but closing it we are now at 2 months and counting. ***UPDATE*** Emailed address below still no response 6 days later this is the exact stuff im talking about with these people. My account still is not closed.

    Response from the owner

Don't do it... go elsewhere. Tried to deposit money at 12:30 on Saturday... they were closed. Went to ENT (who was still open) and opened an account. Got a debit card right then and there (Key made me wait a week). Went there today to close my account and they charged me $28 to close the account. Do not go here. Turn around and head to Ent. Ent is way better. Truly free checking. Key wanted $7.50 a month. Ent is open longer hours on weekends. And no charges to close an account. Some day Key will learn what customer service is... hopefully they can learn from my comments... because the banker I dealt with was not listening.

    Response from the owner

Please know that any fee can be avoided, it's just a matter of finding the right type of account for the way you do your banking. We have many great options to choose from! Banked her for a little over a year, even with protection on my account they have charged me almost $40 for having a payment attempt to process, the transaction was only for $20, which was denied by their system ( fair enough, as I didn't have the funds ) but for the to charge me a $40 fee for their system to reject the bill is outright theft. I have also had issues with them putting 10-14 day holds on checks being deposited, even for small amounts. Overall I am under the impression that they will do anything to rob you of every cent you have. NO BETTER THEN WELLS FARGO OR BANK OF AMERICA.

    Response from the owner

Hello Jonx, that is not the type of experience we want you to have with Key. We have a wide variety of options to help our clients avoid being charged overdraft and returned item fees. Please send an email with your phone number, full name and billing ZIP code to [email protected] to get in touch. We would be happy to call and help. Thank you!^CH

Be very careful when dealing with this bank. They often fail to credit your deposits prior to withdrawals resulting in overdraft fees. Another common error is to fail to post your deposit on the right date. $100 is readily available so make sure you stay on top of that as they will attempt to charge an overdraft fee of $37 per transaction. However, they do refund the fees if you catch them and demand they correct it. Another scary process they allow is same day check processing. I deposit checks and hand out payroll checks at that same day 10pm-thus my bank is closed and the soonest it can be processed is the following business day. Key processes the employees checks the date received by the other bank/ATM.I have never had any bank process checks from other banks and post date it back to the day it was deposited to the other bank. If you are waiting for clientele checks to clear and cut payroll on the same day-DON'T. Payroll will have to be done 24 hours after your deposits to ensure your account doesn't go overdraft. (I learned this after Key charged me $400 in overdraft fees) Key charges overdraft fees for available balance going negative even if the ledger is still positive. They are only open till 5pm M-F and only some branches are open on Saturday till noon. The ATMs are outdated and thus you are only given the first $100 of a deposit vs. some of the newer ATMs like Chase that scan your deposits and thus know if you are depositing cash or not. Holds are very odd at this bank. Some holds are placed by the branch and others by the ATM department. Neither talk to each other as the ATMs are outsourced to another company. If you need to ensure the deposit isn't held, be sure to walk it in and talk to a teller-a little old school for the 21st century. They have text alerts for accounts but you can ONLY monitor 1 account via text messaging. So if you have numerous accounts, you will have to pick which you really care about. Mobile banking via smartphone is nice but it will only allow you to view your account-not transfer funds from your smartphone. You will have to find a traditional PC to make the transfer or go to a branch. There 800 number is only good during normal business hours so if something goes wrong with your account, you will be waiting till business hours to address it. Bankers are not able to correct account errors-only branch managers and they have a VERY flexible schedule. I cannot begin to count the number of times I have gone to a branch and found there isn't even one working that day. Managers at other branches will not be able to address your concerns-only the manager at the branch were you opened the account. Branches are very spread out so you will most likely have to drive across town to get to a branch/atm. Watch out for ATMs fees as they charge $8 for you to use an ATM other than their own. All in all, I would highly recommend choosing a larger bank with more convenience if you are in business. This bank is really meant for personal banking by those with very little convenience needed. For those who still appreciate walking into a branch and talking to someone. If you are in a high speed business requiring technology to stay ahead-Key is not the bank for you.
