Had financial problems from a spinal cord injury that led to loss of my great paying job and a subsequent bankruptcy filing 14 years ago, which included the visa card from HFCU. I was given an exception a few years ago to reopen accounts by the CEO and went in this year expecting to reopen an account once more. The charge off was still on my file and the current CEO refused to honor the exception unless I repaid the charge off. Banks and credit unions get credited with losses on their tax filings. No reason to demand repayment to reopen an account. I was a 28 year customer when I had the spinal cord injury and job loss. No empathy at all and I do NOT recommend this fake caring credit union. If I could give it ZERO STARS, I would! Stay away!

I came through the drive thru today at the Trenton ave location and I tried to deposit money into my husband’s account. I was told the check was to high and would be placed on hold and she is the branch manager so she can do that. I asked if I wrote a check for smaller amount if it will still be placed on hold she told me if it was a lower it wouldn’t be. My husband needed some available now so i called and talked to him and he told me to just do that so I went back in and tried to deposit the check for a lower amount and she looked at the check, looked at me shook her head no, smirked and then told me she is not doing that because she knows the funds aren’t available and wanted me to come in and do the shared branching. I was on my lunch break and was running out of time. My husband was extremely disappointed in this branch because if you were to look up his history I have deposited money into there many many times before we have a joint account for bills at a different bank and separate accounts for our own expenses so we pay our joint bills and then put the rest in our own accounts, we have never bounced a check, and to be made to feel that I looked poor or that I was some criminal that was trying to scam them and it was extremely hurtful. She said she can not in “her good conscious” cash that check. After this afternoon we will be closing our accounts there and also letting my family know as well so they can pull their business as well. I wasn’t even given the option to have it placed on hold the second time just told she knows i “don’t have that kind of money”. She has no idea what the balance is at my other banks, I was just trying to do it on my lunch break since that was the most convenient time for me but unfortunately it turned into the exact opposite, and left feeling very shamed, judged, and discriminated against when in fact the funds are available at our primary bank. Just wanted to make you aware so hopefully no other members of this bank leave feeling the way I did today. I don’t know if she got that impression because I asked so many questions because it’s never happened before, or because I seemed in a hurry because it was my lunch, but she got the complete wrong impression. Rudeness is why we switched primary banks in the first place, now it looks like we be leaving permanently for the same reason. Really disappointing in how far down this branch has gone, since we have been members for over 10 years.
