I would give GN Bank 0 STARS if possible!!! - Location 4619 S. King Drive. It WAS an EXCELLENT institution when it was IL Service Federal Savings. GN Bank's Customer Service is NON-EXISTENT!!! I had a matter that required attention from the Bank's Legal Department and Bank Officers. I NEVER received any follow-up from them. I constantly had to call and email to see where they were with my request. A year has almost passed since my request was submitted. IT WAS NEVER COMPLETED!!! GN has also decided they no longer need to have business hours on Saturday. Since their business hours no longer meet my needs, I'm CLOSING THIS ACCOUNT and moving my assets to a bank where my needs are better served!!! Black folk constantly want their black sisters and brothers to patronize their businesses. I'd be HAPPY to IF my needs were being met. The service here is SO SUBSTANDARD that I'm surprised they're STILL IN BUSINESS!!!

I wish there was a way to leave a one star review. I’m currently sitting in line, after waiting over an hour to get to the line, with only one car in front of me. I sent the canister through the system and after 20 minutes with no response and no acknowledgment, I got the call button. The banker told me that they have a new system and it’s taking time. I told him that I was only paying a mortgage payment and I only needed a receipt. He complained that I was complaining and I asked to speak to a manager. The manager came and her solution was to send the canister back to me because “you didn’t want to wait”. I sent I back and told them I’d write this review as I waited. I go out my way to support neighborhood and black businesses in every aspect of my life. However this is by far the worse banking institution I’ve ever come across. My only regret is that I don’t have the capital to pay off the entire balance before May 2022. Some places provide services that are worth the inconvenience because of the community they support and the mission they are on. This place, GN bank needs to be improved immediately or closed because the service they provide is beyond sub-standard and the issues make banking intolerable.

Customer service has actually regressed over the years we’ve used them for our NFP business account. It’s unfortunate because Black-owned banks are a rarity these days, but when simple business tactics are disregarded it’s disappointing to say the least. GN’s mobile banking app & website functionality is archaic & flat, they do not answer the phones half the time, customer service reps have lied to me with a straight face about following up, drive through lanes are disrespectfully slow, and then bankers/tellers have the audacity to get defensive and catch attitudes when you try to address these things in a constructive manner. We’ve given them more than enough opportunity to catch up to basic banking standards, but sadly we’ll be going through the inconvenience of moving our deposits to a different bank that at least values our time. This is an L for the community; a once proud & pivotal financial institution on the South Side (ISF), before GN bank took over. Hopefully their mgmt will take these poor reviews seriously & right this sinking ship.

This is one of the worst places I’ve ever dealt with. My husband and I dropped off power of attorney paperwork over a month ago pertaining to my father in law, who is very sick and we are TRYING to handle his affairs. There has been absolutely no word on if they “accept” our paper work. Our paperwork has all the necessary requirements, notarized and all. We’ve left multiple voice messages, emails and actual messages with the crabby bank manger and nothing. With the few dealing we’ve had with her, it’s been horrible. She definitely needs to be fired. We live 6 hours away and don’t have the ability to stop in every day to figure out what the deal is. Absolutely a horrible and unprofessional bank. We are now resorting to getting an attorney to deal with this situation …all over a simple bank account.

This is truly the last black owned bank in Illinois people!!!!! I did a little research and made an appointment on the website... I just opened my children’s savings accounts. They were very prompt and friendly. I was please to see a young black man assisting me. I noticed everyone had on a mask so that made me feel more secure. Although I can’t use GN Bank as my primary bank (lack of locations) I most definitely recommend anyone to open up a savings account.

This bank is outdated, unfriendly, lacking professionalism, and is rude to the customers. The manager, Meeka, yelled my bank information to her Co workers in front of customers. The workers take business, very personal and become belligerent and loud. This is a revolving door bank and should not be in our community with the ghetto comments and attitudes. No one is at their desk and will refuse serving customers to chat with friends and take late lunches. I hate that my mortgage was transferred to this bank but glad I no longer have to deal with the people. I have closed all accounts as of today!!! This has been a headache dealing with hateful, slow minded, unprofessional people.

I don't usually write reviews but I had to take the time today. I was having some issues with my account and decided to go into the branch for assistance. This was the most seamless process at a bank that I've ever had. The staff was completely professional and the manager even checked in to make sure my experience was top notch. Great attention to customer care! I have a two savings accounts; personal and business and I am completely satisfied. I plan to open my business checking with them as well Can you tell I am excited about this bank! I can't say enough great things.

I’ve banked with this bank for about 5 years at this point...It’s gets progressively worse every year. They have awful: customer service (with every teller and/or cs rep with a drab/dry personality), bad hours (8am- 4 or 4:30 pm Monday-Friday) Inflexibility and extra long wait times. I TRAVEL and pass hundreds of other (white) banks to patronize this bank because it is black owned and I regret it EVERY TIME. GN do better.

I’ve banked here since it was ISF Bank and was kind of leery of maintaining a relationship with the change to GN Bank. I decided to keep the accounts that I had for myself and my daughter, because they were still black owned, however I continue to stay because I love the staff! They are customer friendly and prompt with their responses!

This is the only bank here in Chicago that will not allow customers to enter into the building so they can conduct their business. Even after a lot of preventions has been put in place for Covid. Seniors have to stand outside under a small shelter with heaters in the cold alone with all the snow. This is were a lot of African Americans bank. They risk their life not knowing who's watching them walk away to then rob them. I've seen people with walkers and other medical equipment standing at the window waiting to be served. So how dare you say you're a part of our community.
