Update: I am leaving my original review up, but I have changed my rating to a 4. I had to file a complaint with the BBB, but after I did, I was contacted within one day with a full refund of the charges. I am disappointed with their customer service, but I no longer feel the need to close my account. I would also recommend that since they already email members (including me), that they should at least send an email that says that they are making changes to fees (instead of just a letter), but I am satisfied with the resolution to my issue. I opened this account in 2016 with my Oma right after I turned 15 and she told me that this credit union is an honest bank that doesn’t bankrupt you with hidden fees. She had been a customer since union camp, long before I was born, and was friends with the people at the bank until she died. Well it’s 2022 and I am about to enter my senior year in college with $3 in my bank account because I have been charged $497 in ‘overdraft fees’ in four months. Since I opened the account in 2016 I have put all of my money into my savings account and Ga heritage pulled the money straight out of my savings with no fees charged (which I was told to do by the banker who set up my account). Well apparently that changed on March 1st, and I started getting charged a $7 overdraft fee every time they pulled money from my savings into my checking account. In four months they have charged me 71 times. I never noticed until today, and when I called I was told that we were informed via a single letter sent in the mail about these changes. Well I never got the letter. You’d think for a bank that constantly emails you and post news on their websites that they maybe would’ve mentioned that change, but you’d be wrong. After my information got ‘passed to a supervisor’ (who I could hear talking in the background of the phone call), I was told that because I had logged into my mobile account, I could only be refunded five courtesy reversals, a grand total of $35. Who knows if I’ll even get that, given that I had to refuse that money in order to get my problem passed further up the chain of command. I am supposed to get a call in the morning to see if I can get any more of my money back. Unfortunately I think that the only option to maybe get my money back will be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau.

I have been a member for over 20 years. I use to love this credit union But now!!! They charge me 10.00 to replace my debit card that was lost when other banks are free. Now they upgraded me from free checking to paying 4.97 a month even w/ direct deposit. Customer service over the phone unacceptable. When u call u reach their call center which in the same building as the credit union. U don't have access to the person that screwed up ur account. U have to tell ur problem to the call center agent she has no clue as to what's going on. Then if u lucky she will give the person the message. U may or may not get a call back. But if u do u gotta explain the issue all over again to a person that didn't help in the 1st then when u get the person u gotta explain URSELF again. This is just to much. This is so frustrating & stressful. Im throwing in the towel w/ this credit union.
Dear J. Campbell, We are sorry to hear of your negative experience with us and do not want to lose a 20 year member. Your membership is important to us. Our Call Center team is highly trained to assist members by phone. They also have the ability to transfer a member to their desired Member Service Representative so they may speak to them directly with any account issues or questions. Charging fees are a common practice by all banks and credit union in order to offset costs. If it is not too late, we encourage you to visit your preferred branch and speak with the Branch Manager. They’ll be happy to discuss any account concerns you may have and hopefully keep your membership.

They're awesome. I've been using them for years. There service is outstanding and their rates and services are better than anyone else. I just went to Google to get their number and it says they are busier than usual. But, I called anyway, and the entire transaction was done in no time at all.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Take care.

I’ve had repeated problems with Georgia Heritage holding checks for longer then expected/normal periods of time. I’ve always been patient with them concerning this manner, but this time when I addressed it as being a problem the response was less then tactful. The Stephenson branch manager Bill responded very nonchalantly like it wasn’t his problem that my check didn’t get released, when I know he has the power to override the release hold. In addition to this, the response times for return phone calls need to be improved. I’ve been a member with Georgia Heritage since 1996 and these types of problems have been occurring more and more within the last year.

Went here today to open a checking, CD, and savings accountsand transfer my funds from my FL bank. The black girl with the braids was so rude and nasty I withdrew money and left. Why do people come to work when they're in a bad mood.

My Husband is Jeremy Hicks and my name is Kenya Hicks. We was going through financial difficulties and end up getting our car repossessed. We called Nick in the finance department and informed him of our situation and we will pay the fees related to the repossession and the past due balance right away even apologized and let him know we was having hard times. Nick informed us that we had to pay a total of 2164 to get our vehicle back which included the repossession fee. My husband paid that Tuesday of 9/4/18. He also Informed us that we will need to sign a paper to get a device put on our car for GPS. My husband signed the Document and emailed it to Nick. We was ok with that. My husband called Nick and informed him he submitted the information. Nick than goes to tell my husband he have to pay the tow people for storage fee and to regain access to our vehicle which was a total of $400. WE agreed and stated it was fine which brought the charges to a total of 2564 now. Nick said they will be there Friday to install the device in our car and than we can pick it up. Our appointment was today 9/7/18 at 12:30. It was going on 2:00 so my husband called to check on the car to see if we can pick it up and they informed us the people car broke down and we had to wait until Tuesday. OK this has nothing to do with us. This is now on you guys because we have did everything from A to Z. You guys was the one who want the thing put on the car not us. Legally our car should have been in our hands the day we paid all our charges. We sitting here waiting and nobody thought it was fair to tell us this. Not only that they is making us pay extra storage fees for something they is putting on there which is not on us. We have did everything they ask us to do and paid what they ask to pay for them to come and tell us we cannot get our car. They is holding our car and will not let us get it and we is missing out on the days and month we have paid for and will not get reimbursed for it and pay money we do not have. He talk to us like we were nobody stating how he could have did that and he could of did this. Basically holding it over our head and throwing it in our face. People go though hardships in life and hit bumps in the road. But we did everything they ask us to do from start to finish and they is making us suffer for it. My husband is a soldier in the military who is serving for this country and he showed him no respect or sympathy. I work, go to school, have three kids who I have to pick up from practice and I am pregnant as well and cannot even go to my appointments, and this man still will not release our vehicle to us. I never thought someone can be this heartless to anyone. I am a claim specialist and I go above and beyond for my customers and treat them with the upmost respect and If there is anyway I can help them I will. It's one thing when you can't help us but wish you could. It's another when you can help us but simply won't because that's the type of person you are. I would never in a million years finance with Georgia Heritage again while Nick is there. I have never experience anything like this. Maybe one day they will get someone who actually cares and have a heart for people.

So glad they are "upgrading" me to a checking account with a monthly fee. Final strike with this bank

This bank can’t even complete a simple wire transfer. They’re also too lazy to call another bank to ask how to even do a wire transfer. I’m not sure these people know what they’re doing. They also don’t respond to emails or voicemails. Go elsewhere.
