Most of my banking is done online, however, an order of blank checks was stolen from me when the UPS person just dropped my package in the lobby of my condo building and not my front door. The banking manager went over my checking account with me, made sure there were no checks being made and closed my checking account. The bank manager made sure that all future checks get delivered to my PO Box and transferred my old checking account into a new one along with a new ATM card. I like working with small regional banks since the big ones will charge an arm and a leg to service my account, and during the 2008 crisis, First MIdwest and it's previous Covest Bank was never in trouble financially.

PSA: never use First Midwest Bank. A few years ago someone used my stolen ID and took ~$10,000 out of my checking account ( They deposited bogus checks and requested cash back - name was spelled wrong and several other red flags). I promptly moved most of my money to Chase because I did not feel comfortable having my money at First Midwest Bank since their bankers did not notice that the person using my ID looked nothing like me & that the signature did not match. I wanted to keep my account open because of tuition rewards so I left $500 in my account. It just came to light that between the time of the theft (about 3 years ago) and now, they charged $288 in fees. I talked to the branch manager (Joan Lopez - Des Plaines) and she refused to issue a credit for these fees. Ridiculous. We also bank there with our business accounts and the fees that they charge are much higher than other banks. They tell you they will waive the fees and then what do you know, a year later they start charging you again. Bank with Chase, so much better.

Customer Service was extremely bad at this branch. I faxed a letter to one of the personal bankers requesting that my business account be closed and giving contact information. No response. Called the same personal banker and left a voicemail. Several business days later, I received a voicemail instructing me to do what I could not do and said I could not do in my original voicemail. (I had been locked out of online banking.) I left a second voicemail saying that. No response. I called the branch manager and left a voicemail saying I would like him to refer me to a personal banker who actually returned phone calls and I did not want to be charged fees while my money was inaccessible to me. No response. I finally was in Chicago (I no longer live in IL.) and closed the account at a different branch. Maybe this negative review will help promote more of a service focus.

How do you business with a bank for 20 years and not a one banker can remember your name yet I can remember theirs? Online banking is the future and FMB misses the mark they are a dinosaur in the new world. They continuously make you reset your password then give you 10 seconds before the code they send you expires its virtually impossible and extremely frustrated. I put a ton of money through this bank through the 20 years I've been with them and they had never ounce called me and said how can we help you grow your business, yet they spend millions in advertising? Don't waste your time. I have finally moved on.

This branch will be the reason I will never ever choose first Midwest bank for anything. The staff at this location are rude in person and sound very irritated over the phone. Please forgive me for needing asstitance and help with trying to get a loan. Also on a side note if you want to talk bad about previous customers make sure that no current customers are in the bank!
