Edited: After few months, I tried this company again because of my other bank going crazy with fees. Application was approved quickly and all the processes were handled well. So far I’m happy with CCU and will stick with them. Original: Even with the bad reviews, I wanted to give this company a try. Applied and submitted all documents. Their email response indicated an approval within three business day. After two weeks of no communication, I asked them to cancel the application. If their response for a new business is this poor, I can't imagine what kind of response existing customers receive.

I was a member of Meadows Credit Union since the mid-1990's. Meadows customer service was outstanding. Consumers Credit Union acquired Meadows about 3 years ago. Consumers Credit Union - their customer service is OK, but not outstanding. I received a letter a few days ago stating the APR on my Consumers Visa card is going up by 1% as of August. I've had this card for 11 years, never late on payment. I also have a HELOC and a car loan with Consumers, never late on a payment as those payments are automatically debited from my checking account. I have a very good FICO score. I called Consumers yesterday, and they can do nothing for me regarding my interest rate until the next credit score review in November. I will be sending a letter to Sean Rathjen, CEO of Consumers Credit Union, about this lack of customer service. Too bad Meadows Credit Union no longer exists.

Complete Pain to deal with. Extremely difficult process to sign up for direct withdrawal on loan. Customer service extremely unhelpful. Followed exactly the directions show on the Paperwork to signup online direct withdrawal and keep getting error message. Had to call them 4 times to fix the situation and it is still not resolved. Was hung up on multiple times, wrong documents were sent, and information provided to them in earlier phone calls was clearly not recorded. I am literally trying to sign up to give them money and they won't take it. Absolute mess of a company

This is a good bank if you have no options. The customer service is rude and you must wait along time. If you use online banking to deposit checks they only allow a small limit unlike any of my other banks. In addition the funds are not available for at least 5 days. I have a Steller credit history so not sure why this is. Would only recommend this as a last resort. I keep an account there because I don't want to set up new on line debits so shame on me for being a member

Virginia and Juan were awesome in helping me complete a transaction to make a final payment on my account. I was lucky enough to go into the lobby where the virtual appt kiosk was not working and we were still able to complete all of the necessary transactions in under 45 mins. Thank you for your professionalism and assistance on getting me the necessary documents as quickly as possible with professionalism and safely with COVID restrictions. I was a loyal customer at Premier Credit Union and LOVED them. I would never have thought to change banks, and was a little upset to find they merged or were bought out by Consumer. One of my biggest issues was that I had just moved out of state to Indiana, and while Premier was extremely accommodating despite not having any local branches, I was worried how the merge would affect my banking. It's been horrendous. There are several shared branches near where I live that I can use but every single time I go to deposit a check, they cannot find my information based off my account number. I've called Consumer several times to ask them why I have problems with my account number and no one can help me out. I've been given different forms of my number to give to the shared branches when I need to do banking, but they always have problems finding me in the system. I tried using their Express Shot deposit system on their mobile app and it never works. I take picture after picture and all of them get rejected. I've emailed them about getting this feature to work and that was not helpful at all. So I can't deposit checks in shared branches or use their mobile app, so what do I do? Each phone call to Consumer has taken at least a half hour as you have to wait on hold for about 15 minutes before someone finally picks up and sends you to all these different departments. No one ever seems to have an answer, or is "not authorized" to provide me with the information I need. I once had someone tell me she was unable to verify my own account number and that someone would need to call me back. Um....why?? That's ridiculous. Banking with them has been incredibly inconvenient. I just moved back to IL and figured it might be easier to work with them now that I'm still in state, but that's not true at all. I just spent 25 minutes yesterday waiting to order a new debit card as mine was stolen over the weekend, and was told that someone could put in the request for me, but that I would need to have someone call me back to verify my address. I'm at work, I don't have time to be making 30+ minute phone calls. I email, I get no response. My work schedule does not allow for me to get to a branch to do all this in person unless I wait until Saturday, but who can afford to go 5 days without cash or a card? I've decided instead of going to make a withdrawal for the week on Saturday, I'm closing my accounts after 8 years of Premier/Consumer and moving on. The service I've received at the branches has always been wonderful, it's a shame that their phone service and online services are less than satisfactory. I've complained about these issues before and they're never addressed properly.

Hello my name is Gabriel and I am a customer from consumers. I am writing this email because I would like to say about Maria Janet, she has been a super wonderful help since day uno. Maria like no body else has make every process super easy, we currently have 2 auto and 1 personal loan with consumers credit union and we are planning to also apply for a home loan in the future, my dad and I are new business owner and Maria Janet has help us since we purchase our first vehicle for our company. I cannot get tire of saying how wonderful she has been. Its not like i'm out there looking for loans and loans but from my dads and my past experiences nothing compares to Maria Janet. My respect to Maria and like I told her she is the person who makes a company a super company. keep her happy.... by the way I'm looking at all this bad reviews about the company I recommend to ask for Maria Janet she is the best I am serious.

Consumers Credit Union has the most abhorrent customer service I have ever dealt with. Got a car loan back in May of 2017, which I got privately insured with comprehensive insurance the day I purchased it. They began charging me a ridiculous rate for their own CPI (collateral protective insurance) because they claimed I never sent them proof of my own private insurance. Once I sent them the proof of insurance they said they would credit my account the original $390 and $78 monthly fee for their CPI. 7 months later and they still regularly bill me for this $78 even though I have sent them proof of insurance several times now and even walked it into this very office in Northbrook. Everytime I call they keep kicking the can to an "expert" that will contact me about the issue. Then I send them the paperwork, they say it will be resolved, then I'm charged again for the insurance next month. Total and complete scam artists, I would never borrow from them again.
