We went there for lunch yesterday because we had heard alot of history about the Inn and that we could tour the place. The food was really good and we were impressed by the atmosphere and all the pictures and decor. The down side is that they no longer do tours there and that is the main reason we went there. They are under new ownership now and they stopped touring.

We honeymooned here a few yrs ago, and go back each year for our anniversary. We luvvvvvvv it here!!! The history of the inn, alone, is worth the stay, the food is just as amazing, and the owners (and Barnum, of course!!) are even more so!!! GO!! STAY!! Stayed the night in the A.P. Hill room, very clean very nice. We were the only ones staying in the inn that night so it was a little scary. No ghost experience but I would definitely stay again. The breakfast in the morning was great. Over all I would rate our experience a 10 out of 10.

Showed up with 13 folks for lunch before a show.....notecard "we will be closed today" on the door. Called several times leaving voicemails saying the date and time we will be coming by and no one ever returned the call. This had happened last year but when we showed up, all went well and everything was great. Not so sure what's going on with this place but since the reviews I've read indicate many folks have shown up and they were closed, has me seriously suggesting to these owners to sell to someone who REALLY wants a business that can keep history alive. Who purchases a place with this kind of history, let's the gardens go outside so that it looks abandoned, never returns phone calls, snaps at customers (per several reviews) and closes on a whim??? Sell PLEASE to someone who would DIE to own and operate this once wonderful place.

I had the exact same experience as Daniel Weaver stated below. Completed an online reservation, auto-email strictly stated that if you do not have a confirmation email that you do not have a reservation. I called probably 15-20 times over the course of 1.5 months (during what would-be normal working hours for any normal business), I got the owner 1 time and he was "busy and about to get dinner service started" so he couldn't confirm my name/room/dates etc. but said "I would be fine". I got a server to answer one time too, who "looked at the book" but apparently didn't see my name on the book so said she would have the owner call me, took my name and info but the owner never called. Every other time I called I got multiple different voice recordings (sometimes it would be the owner's voice, sometimes it would be automated), I left about 3-4 voicemail messages - with not one single return call from Cashtown. After reading multiple reviews with similiar experiences, some even stating they had angry run-ins with the owners over confirmations, I was not about to put my trust in these owners that they would actually allow me into the Inn if I just trusted my non-confirmed reservations and arrived on the date of my reservation without this *elusive* confirmation email (that was supposed to be sent within 72 hours after making online reservations). I would be super angry after making a long drive to arrive at a locked/closed Inn on the date of my reservation or to be turned away by an angry innkeeper as some people may have experienced. So now, not only did I cancel my reservations ( I think /because they also never replied to my cancellation), but they ruined my fun planned birthday-weekend in Gettysburg. Gettysburg rooms book up fast the weekend I had booked, and I wasted over a month being hopeful that I'd receive confirmation, to say I'm disappointed is an under-statement. I now have missed all the available rooms for that weekend elsewhere in town. Some reviews even said that they had angry encounters with the owners, I did not have any "angry" encounters (bc an encounter of any sort seemed to elude me) but I became worried that my patience was running thin and that I would have had this type of encounter, had I not just cancelled instead. I'd rather stay home vs. giving this business my money. I felt like I was begging them to confirm and take my money, I shouldn't' have to do that if this were a legitimately operated business. *Buyer beware!!* I wish I could go back and pick a different place, and never give them my credit card or reservation/name/information in the first place. I would never refer or suggestion anyone to attempt to make a reservation here. What a joke! Too bad too because I've known about Cashtown for a long time, I'm a paranormal believer and have always wanted to stay here. Guess they're riding on the ghosts' coattails to keep their business afloat bc their customer service is certainly a floundering mess. Before even seeing a ghost, I'm scared of the place, that's for sure!

I have been in the hospitality industry for over 40 yrs. Have worked the front and the back of the house but I have never experienced the rudeness which has been displayed numerous times by an owner. We arrived one evening without reservations and the huff/puff and disgusted looks were really not necessary. I understand fully the need for reservations however 'guests' will drop in and to present an attitude such as you (owner) displayed was not inviting or appropriate. Time passed and we dropped in again - same reaction. Ok, - the next time I thought, I better call and make reservations, which I did. Left a message and gave my return phone number for confirmation. Several hours had passed and no returned call, so I decided to call, which I should not have had to do so. You (owner) answered the phone, acknowledged that you did receive the message and informed me that the restaurant was closed, (website states you are open). You didn't even have the 'professional curiosity' to return my call. If I had not called we would have shown up to find locked doors. I will think long and hard before I grace your doorstep again and I will not have great difficulty in not recommending your establishment. You may have a couple of 'ghosts' in your closet which TV likes to play on and fortunately for you, your establishment is historical. I will say this; your staff has made-up for your short comings. They have always been professional, attentive and the food has been superb. You will probably not miss our dollars but maybe someday you will ...C.A. Bumbaugh Waynesboro, PA

Tried over the past four months to stay at this place with my girlfriend. Reserved a room online, never got a confirmation e-mail. Called EVERY DAY with no answer, leaving multiple voicemails. We then decided to drive up on the day of our reservation (yes we went there during the time an employee was supposed to be there to give us our key), and alas, not a single person was there. Our next opportunity to go was this past Thursday night, which we also booked online. Out of 50+ calls, only ONCE did someone answer the phone. We explained the situation, said we had called every day to book a room for this one night, and she said she would talk to the owner and get us a confirmation e-mail. We asked if that if showed up on the night of our reservation, would someone be there and would we actually be able to stay. She replied "yes I think so"... In the two weeks leading up to our reservation, we called repeatedly again to confirm, but with no answer. Finally the day comes. We drive there, and there's only two cars parked in the front. We knock on the door, no answer. We call, no answer. We sit there for 30 minutes. I hear people talking right behind the door, but no one answers. I don't get it, you had someone trying for four months to GIVE YOU MONEY and you refuse? Never had this happen before, what an absolute joke.

Had a wonderful dinner there with a small group. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, especially the salmon in puff pastry and filet mignon. The cocktails were well made too.

Very nice and quaint. New owners were very nice. I plan to stay here, not just visit in the future.

I'm very unhappy that this Inn was closed last year during the 155th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. We drove all the way there to Cashtown for lunch on July 2nd only to find a small note on the front door that it was closed. How can you close during a battle anniversary!?
Sorry for the inconvenience but the Inn has not had lunch service for two years. jack
