Channing shared a couple of options for our mortgage that we'd never heard of before. We did a lot of searching before inquiring with four different lenders. Channing was the one who our agent recommended. He turned out to be the most knowledgeable of the four we spoke with. Our loan closed smoothly and on time.

Channing is the consummate professional, I have worked with him several times in the past and both his knowledge of the mortgage business, and professionalism makes him a pleasure to work with. Channing is very confident in his abilities which comes across as arrogant. He demands respect (in my book, respect is earned and it should be reciprocated). Channing seems to believe that he is the only person with the right answers and he does not like to be questioned on his calculations or his company's business practices. When I questioned his interpretation of a Fannie Mae guideline, he was convinced that he was correct so I called Fannie Mae myself to discuss the guideline and was told that my understanding of the guideline is correct (not Channing's understanding). At the end of the day, Channing decided that my questioning was disrespectful and he no longer wanted to assist us in getting a loan. That's an interesting business model for a start-up company but it's not like we ever want to do business with him again, we were simply hoping to close on our home and move on! Now we have to start over but that's okay because we have an opportunity to eradicate the miserable experience of the past three months. As a follow-up to the owner's reply, WE did not terminate the relationship, he did....so own it, Channing! When I spoke to Fannie Mae, they stated that my interpretation of the guideline is correct and that if an underwriter had difficulty understanding the guideline in question, then they needed to call the local Fannie Mae rep for clarification. Since buyers never speak to an underwriter, we have to hope that the loan officer is knowledgeable enough in the 'facts' to help explain the details to the underwriter. Also, the issue with the other lender had nothing to do with the Fannie Mae guideline and the entire time we were working with the other lender, Channing was asking us for our business....what a mistake on our part!
It is our desire to make every client we work with happy and to make their closing a success. When we are able to work as a team with our clients we are very successful in reaching our goals. Unfortunately guidelines are not left open to our interpretation but they are adhered to based up the lender and underwriters discretion. Mrs. Verrill clearly disagreed not with our interpretation of the guidelines but with the interpretation of two different lenders we submitted the loan to and their underwriters. Furthermore we were not able to start working with them until they had already decided to move on from another lender with a similar issue. Answering client questions is our favorite part of the loan process. Our entire business model is built on answering questions for our clients and providing and honest and transparent home buying experience. All of our attempts to try and resolve the issues were denied as none of our explanations or solutions seemed to satisfy the client. At the end of the day, it was the client not Bayou Mortgage that decided to terminate the relationship.

I'd say that Channing's strength is knowing front to back what is going to happen, which allowed us to map out the entire process. It can sometimes be overwhelming, and it will be no matter what, but having people to mitigate that is of extreme value. If I asked a question, he knew that guideline without any hesitation.
