Updated review: 5 stars for Nancy the new bank manager for making it right and restoring my account and 1 star for the bank for an aggregate score of 3 stars. Tip for new and existing clients, electronic monthly statements are free, the default is paper statements and you will be drained $2/month unknowingly like I did. While I don't agree at all with the bank's business practices. I definitely appreciate Nancy knowing the value of customer service. I'm a service technician and the key to exceptional service is really simple if you can answer this question: Would you treat your customers with the same integrity as your friends and family? Original review: This was the most frustrating experience as a Canadian opening an account here. Word of warning, their "no fees and no minimum balance" is FALSE. Because of the COVID border restrictions the past year I was unable to make physical deposits and withdrawals so I did everything online thru PayPal into my Banner account. Apparently Paypal transactions don't count towards account activity which makes no sense, so after a year they started to drain me $5 per month and closed my account with no word of warning. I explained the situation to customer service and the branch manager and they were unrelenting and uncaring about how the COVID restrictions prevented my ability to go down there to keep it open, they refused to refund the fees they charged me. After jumping thru more hoops and filling out the dormancy forms to keep my account open, I found out months later my account was closed. First the excuse they used was data breach hack(why do clients get punished when the bank has weak cybersecurity?) and then now its for having a "$0 balance for more than 7 days" again with no word of warning. This is absurd because the $0 min balance bank accounts in my country which is advertised as such will never close your account for zero balance, ever. The ones that do require a min balance are upfront about it and will give you a warning within 1 year, while Banner bank here is 7 days?! How is that even remotely reasonable? They will make up any new rule or reason to shut down your account as they see fit with no remorse and no warning. Until they stop these unscrupulous business practices and shutting down accounts for no reason and using whatever excuse they can fabricate, they will continue to lose more long time clients like me.

manager was willing to try to help me out after being bounced around by the bellingham location and calling several locations 20 times in total. 3 stars because the employees clearly need help if they cant answer the phones after 9 calls. i am now on a first name basis with their call center after being transferred there so many times.

    Response from the owner

Hi Brendan, thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you had such difficulty getting a call through, but happy to hear you were able to get in touch with the branch manager at Blaine for help. We will share your feedback with local branch management.

Several weeks ago I called the mortgage broker in Lynden. I left a message including my phone number, name and that I was interested in getting pre-approved for a loan. I never received a callback. Yesterday, I went into the Blaine branch and mentioned to a banker there what had happened. She then offered to call the Lynden branch for me and I declined. I simply wanted someone at the bank to know this had happened. That person then helped me at the teller window and apparently sent this invitation to review the bank. I don't have a problem with the Blaine branch. However, I will be looking to other banks for the mortgage I am shopping for.

    Response from the owner

Hi Charlene - thank you for your feedback. It's great to hear our branch team was able to help, but will certainly share your feedback with our mortgage team, as this is not the level of service we strive to provide. Thank you.

I had an account at Banner bank for two years. Never had a bounced cheque, or an overdraft. We used the account to pay online bills and send wire transfers at $50 a pop. Out of the blue I was told that the account was being shut down, the only explanation being an "unsatisfactory relationship". They could, or would not, explain what that meant, and said I was being shut down with a large number of other account holders by head office. Banner bank was supposed to issue 2 months account closure notice, but only gave 10 days with the explanation that the branch manager quit, and nobody had taken over his tasks. Nobody bothered to call, email, or send a letter until we contacted them for a routine transaction. Our new bank asked for a Verification of Deposit form (VOD) to be signed by Banner. Banner refused saying it is against their policy to provide references. When told this was a VOD they still refused saying can only verify active accounts. Of course Banner has records or our past deposits, when asked if those could be verified they simply said "since you are no longer a client we will not help you." The staff and service at Banner bank was always very friendly and helpful. One day everything changed and the level of service became very poor. I do not know what is going on there but I am truly dis-satisfied with their service, beware of Banner Bank.

Banner Bank in Blaine and Ferndale demonstrate great customer service. Look for Nancy S., when you visit either of the Bank Branches. Both Branches are in the "Established Professionals & Trusted Network" of ReloNavigator.

Staff were extremely helpful when at the location. Unfortunately they were unable to effectively communicate regarding cut off dates and I no longer hold an account here.

    Response from the owner

Hi Sterling, thank you for your review. We're glad to hear that the team at our Blaine location was helpful, but sorry to hear that you didn't have that same helpful experience in other areas. We'll share your feedback with branch management.
