I came to Providence the other day on business, had my wallet with ID, credit cards, cash, etc. and realized I had no small bills as I was about to stop for coffee and various small stops, so I stopped at BankRI, ran in through the rain, and asked them just to break my bill. The teller refused immediately and said only with an account number. I wasn't giving her a check or anything, understand, but cash. .Bank of RI refuses to cash CASH to the public! Her supervisor backed her up, so it was no mistake. Refusing the public with a simple request like breaking a bill, that's a new low I've not heard of! I had to run back out through the rain, found a Citizen's Bank who of course immediately cashed CASH, and I stopped back in returning to my car to show Bank RI what common courtesy still looks like. I now know where to recomend courtesy and service and where not to to my clients seeking a bank for their business and personal accounts!

For people who are upset about a bank not exchanging bills ..... bank ri is only taking a extra step to make sure that fake currency is not being utilized in there branches. This does not mean that everyone who walks into a branch trying to break a 20 dollar bill is a culprit they are simply being fair in this sense. If they make an exception to break a bill for you then they must do it for everyone and unfortunately not every person has the same intentions. This branch is located in a street where almost every bank branch is including bank of america citizens Washington trust and more....Randomly coming into a branch that you do not have a account with in a street where pretty much every bank is can be seen as suspicious. This bank takes there security and there customers very seriously as all banks should. For the previous reviewer i will let you know that citizens bank is not as secured they opened up an entire loan for another customer under my name when i was only 15 years old I wonder how they verified this persons identity? Social dob id doesnt matter i was only 15.....so it doesnt surprise me at all that they were quick to cash to a non customer....would you rather bank with a bank that is very secured and very alert or a bank that is very lenient with random people who walk in?... I was both a customer and employee for this bank in the past sometimes customers dont know the reason behind their policies but it is all put in place to protect there customers and their employees who they genuinely care about .
Thank you for your supportive positive review Chantal! Warmly, The BankRI Team

I just moved out to to Providence from Philadelphia. My intial bank informed me that the Bank of RI was partnered with them and that I would be able to treat the Bank of RI as my normal bank (meaning I would be able to deposit/withdrawal from my account as I pleased). When I went into the bank at 3:50. (Closes at 4), I was greeted with an "Ughh guess this is the last one.....Hi, how can I help you?" I explained to her my situation and responded "Oh I never heard of that bank so I can't help you.....try online banking" she never conversed with a colleague or even attempted to run a search on her database. The lady I spoke to was condescending and unpleasant. I never got her name but she was of some Jamaican decent and said she said she was there for 12 years. Not sure if she was tired, hungry, or both. But I will never step foot back in there because of her. There are so many other banks. Don't trust your money with mean people. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
