ACU used to be a great place to work and bank, not anymore. I was under the premise that ACU was here to serve, advocate and advise members on the best choices for them. I was sadly mistaken. I realized this when hearing "we only help good members worth helping" from my manager, when trying to go the extra mile for a member that "was not worth it". It seems that they advocate, serve, and advise what is best for themselves. ACU has adopted more of a bank philosophy rather than a credit union, including raising their fee schedule. When they raised their interest rates to "stay competitive" that they were actually above the industry standard in most areas. Since the managerial hierarchy is a solidified, tight knit click, there will be no changing of any sort, unless it increases operating profit for the credit union. All changes, including changing to Mastercard were done for financial reasons. Nothing that I can recall at all was ever done to benefit or make members lives easier. The credit union has actually gone so far south that they began to pay people for good reviews. These are the only positive reviews you will find. It is very sad that a such a place has fallen so low on the totem pole. The old CEO was a miracle worker when she brought the shambles of what ACU used to be to the place it is now. Since the change of position, it seems that management does not care about members, employees, or service, just the bottom line. Unfortunately the credit union has significantly lost popularity, and seems to be returning to its old ways as a failing credit union.

    Response from the owner

Hi Matt, I am fantastically sorry to see you feel this way, but, unfortunately, I must stand in disagreement. I personally stay here, at ACU, specifically because I believe in Arapahoe CU’s service to the community. Most staff will agree. While it doesn’t work out for everyone, I can say that we will continue to do what is right, at every level, for the credit union and our membership. That said, I wish you the best of luck in the future, Matt. Best, Sean (ACU Communications Guy)

No support on weekends and the worst online banking experience. Took forever to get access to my account once the online format changed, cannot print payment coupons for the small loan that I have, they won't mail me those coupons, and now that I finally got access to my account online, it won't let me login without texting me a pin but, they have an old number and won't let me select my cell, which I know they have. The only reason they are getting 2 stars instead of one is the woman I spoke to when trying to get online access was very friendly and professional.

    Response from the owner

Hi Jason, I am sorry that you have run into recent issues at the credit union. The new online system is a departure from many platforms in that it requires additional authentication. Arapahoe CU tries to stay at the forefront of security and felt this update was necessary to protect our members. The PIN number is meant to add an additional layer of security, but, as you have experienced, it can be frustrating if our user profile isn’t set up correctly. Can I have a representative reach out to you to ensure that you don’t run into any other issues? You can send an email to [email protected] and we will get somebody with you promptly. While I may not be able to resolve your other issues, I would at least like to give you an explanation for some of your concerns. While we are a small credit union, we want to provide as much support as we possibly can. We do not currently have staff available on the weekends, but our executive staff is considering making changes to make sure our members are taken care of. We have recently added the state’s first online chat system and are trying to expand our other points of contact as well. I can promise you that, until we actually can expand our contact hours, we will always ensure immediate response to any issues you have over the weekend. We also pay for our members to access CU service centers and a national network of ATM's that may be able to help you out. Again, sorry for any issues you have run into recently. Let me know if you would like a representative to get in touch with you. As with any feedback, I will also be reporting this to executive management. Best, Sean (Arapahoe Credit Union Communications)

I started my first account with ACU when I was a teenager. I am now in my mid-40's and will ALWAYS keep my account here! Between amazing customer service, great loan products and all around good energy, I love you guys. Thank you for looking out for your customers and taking the time to treat us well.

This has been probably one of the best credit union experiences I've ever had. The location is so great and the managers and teller staff that I've experienced are awesome and very bright. Every time I come here the representatives are so welcoming and ready to take any questions I have.

I appreciate the way ACU handles business and treats me as a customer. They make it very easy to do business there. In the 16 years I have had my accounts there, I cannot think of one problem I have had. Good job, and thank you!

Fees. Its 2017 and Im getting charged for using an ATM too much in a week.... Dispensaries use ATM withdrawl in place of debit transactions because of federal constraints, so if you frequent dispensaries and also want to use the CO-OP atm network you'll be charged a fee after 5 uses a week. Also their Courtesy Pay fee they seem so proud of is a glorified overdraft fee. A courtesy would be to give customers 24 hours to pull the account out of the red before charging $32 for their courtesy. Get with the times this "credit union" will run you up the wall with fees.

    Response from the owner

Hi RJ, I am sorry you have run into recent issues. While some fees are—sadly—inevitable, I can assure you that they aren’t frivolous at Arapahoe CU. We have very specific reasons for when we have to charge them and it usually has to do what is best for our membership. I may not be able to stop these items, but I can certainly help you avoid them in the future. First, we use what’s called the CO-OP ATM network to process ATM transactions. This network lets our members use any of over 30,000 nationwide ATMs, giving them convenience beyond most large banks. However, the network does charge the credit union for each transaction. Arapahoe CU gladly pays the first five of these to make sure members have access to their money, but we ask that the member offset that cost after that. In this way, we limit costs for our membership as a whole. So, while that doesn’t necessarily help your current situation, there are always solutions and I want to offer up some alternatives. First, if you think you will be withdrawing cash from an ATM more than 5 times, the easiest alternative is to simply withdraw more when you visit. There are no consequences for taking more from an ATM up to your daily limit. Second, we also pay for our members to have unlimited access to Shared Branches. Most credit unions are part of this network that will allow you to visit a teller, for free, in an area closer to your dispensary. You can go in and largely transact as you would at an Arapahoe CU branch. I’m more than happy to help you find a close branch or you can visit our contact page for a locator of both ATMs and usable branches. As for courtesy pay, this is pretty common one. Courtesy pay allows us to pay your items when they come through the credit union, rather than returning them. However, as you know, it can be expensive if not monitored closely. The best solution is through other products and reserving courtesy pay only as an absolute last line of protection. An overdraft line-of-credit, a fairly common and easy to set up product, is perhaps the best method as it allows you to do exactly what you have suggested: That is, float an item for a short time without a fee. We can also look into your account to see if we can do a custom overdraft sequence. This lets our computers move money around to avoid over-drafting at all. Of course, we can always remove courtesy pay if you like, but that solution is certainly not for everyone. Hopefully, these suggestions have helped somewhat. I would love to put a representative in touch with you to discuss your options if that would be OK. Jason is our Communication Center manager and one of the absolute best financial resources that I know. Please let me know if I can have him reach out to you or you can contact him directly at [email protected]. That all said (and I apologize because it might be a lot of information), if there is anything that I can do, please contact my team at [email protected]. We make absolutely sure to send any feedback like this to the executive management team. Best, Sean (Arapahoe Credit Union Communications)
